Angry Thanks to the f#*@wit that smashed my mirror

Parked at a friends place last night to discover a smashed drivers side mirror when I got back. Not just the glass, the whole thing, indicators, mirror, casing... Four part numbers totalling over $600 in parts and then painting and installation on top of that!

So it's an insurance job now with a $595 excess and no car for who knows how long.

So thank you to the piece of **** that damaged my car and continued on their merry way... (probably in a commodore and on their way to Macca's)

    That sucks.
I am always worried that my car will be attacked becasue it is new and shiny (as opposed to my old corolla)

Could you import a right hand mirror from ECSTuning/OEMPlus etc to cut the costs?

Hope it all gets sorted and doesn't take very long.

    that's the worst!

I hate people who are too rude to stop and leave details.
I saw someone sideswipe a car when i was younger and they just drove off,
Quickly reported the numberplate and can only hope that someone caught up with them. (happened at Uni)

It's even worse when it's on the borderline of your excess, cause by the time you factor in the loss of no claim bonus, it might be worth paying from your own pocket.

I got 2 minor hail dents in my bonnet a couple of years back, and decided it wasn't worth claiming, but they frustrate me everytime i see them

Someone actually backed into my car about 6 weeks ago in the same street as last night. They paid the 2300 to get that fixed because they were decent enough to leave a note. I have to admit my first reaction was to wonder if they were trying to get some of their own back...

I'm going through insurance because it won't affect my soon to be aquired 'rating one for life' and will be a bit cheaper considering the need for paint. And of course my paint is the expensive metallic black one.

The way most people drive, that is, only half present, they probably didn't even stop texting to notice.

Awww shiz. That sucks man! I'm always paranoid about leaving my car out and if I have to, I'll resort to using my dad's Kangoo instead

So I've been quoted for a non genuine mirror at $250. Anyone have any experience with non genuine parts? Would you do it to save a few hundred bucks?

    I would go with it.
It's the most likely part to be smashed/vandalised again.

Is that $250 painted and fitted?

Nah, that's unpainted but apparently the whole unit. I checked, the electrics still seem to be working so maybe that's one less part I need. And Glynn is checking the genuine VW prices for me.
