    Texting while driving..

Not sure if anyone has posted this as yet. One of my friends posted this up on facebook, a youtube clip showing how a simple text msg can lead to tragic events happening on our roads.

I guess everyone can make their mind up on how effective these commercials are utilising scare tactics and whether it will actually work in decreasing the amount of young driver fatalities.

    Lora..

Anything that distracts a person from controlling a 1500kg tub of steel travelling anywhere from 60 to 110kph is a BAD THING.

How many accidents are caused by texting versues how many are caused by putting drivers with insufficient training and the wrong attitude behind the wheel.

These ads do nothing to lower the road toll and detract from the real issue of idiots behind the wheel and insufficient police on the road to do anything other than book people for speeding.

That is the scariest most graphic video I've ever seen. You've done a good job in scaring me and I will not be texting while the car's in motion ever again.

Can you PLEASE try and appreciate this video for the purpose it was posted? It worked for me, and I'm sure it will stop other people on here from doing the same.

That's because that's not what this advertisement is addressing. This is addressing the potential harm in texting while driving ONLY, not the affects of inexperienced drivers trying to slide around corners, excessive speeding, driving while under influence/intoxicated, etc.

I agree that in the big scheme of things this seems pretty unimportant, but I can tell you now that this sort of video made EVERYONE in my year at school think again about texting in the car. Last year we went to one of those drive-safe school outings where we were shown a video with similar effects and after the year had seen it you could tell that it had impacted everyone in the room to some extent. I believe these sorts of advertisements have a powerful message, despite the narrow range of problems it addresses.

Er yeah because I often text whilst driving without looking up at the road for 14 seconds whilst my two buddies are leaning over my shoulder reading what I'm typing.

You make a good point here - the particular activity in question is a symptom of the problem, not the root cause of it - if we keep addressing symptoms, we'll never actually solve the problem...
    Nothing to see here...

LOL yeah the circumstances are pretty unrealistic.. But the graphic nature of the video can't be forgotten

Just takes practice to text while driving and depends how good you are at multiple tasking.

I wouldn't recommend it to young drivers though, but returning a text can wait till ur stopped at a set of lights etc.
