Here is one view on stop start and the impact on your car. Also that AGM battery will cost you double of the std battery.

its one view. Doesn’t make it the only view. And typical of the Luddite he is, cadogan doesn’t let a whole lot of science or fact get in the way of his rants.

A battery costs what it costs. I’ve owned several Euro vehicles without start/stop, and all had ‘expensive’ AGM batteries.

I get that this stuff matters to some people, but to others - it doesn’t.

I'm no expert, clearly, but given at best the upside is a few cups of coffee a year, and the potential downsides are far more costly in the longer term.. I'll stick to the off position.

I get that those coffees matter to some people, but to others - it doesn't.

But like changing wheels on your car, each to their own.

Zachery - each to their own.

personally, I think about the issue not in terms of $ of fuel consumed or not - I think about in terms of the amount of crap i’m not pumping into the atmosphere unnecessarily. Coz like it or not, facts are that the engine uses less fuel when it’s not running than when it is... (despite cadogan claiming that it takes more fuel to start an engine than to leave it idling for x period of time.....there are so many holes in that old wives tale story....)

I am indifferent to both stop start and also keyless entry. For some facts and not just opinions on stop/start tech ...

    YouTube

Happy to drive a car with or without stop start (but if it is a short trip, I will turn the system OFF to maintain the battery charge).

Also happy to use a key or button to start the car. Makes little difference to me.

I do like to hear John,s rant I get a laugh but as he pointed out these systems are supposed to be reliable ? the reason I started this post was that I was told by the customer that their stop start was faulty and had left her stuck waiting at stop signs and intersections . Now I know its convenient to use the keyless entry feature but does it unlock all doors as you pull on the handle or just drivers . Now that has two issues one what if it doesnt unlock all the doors as you pulll /lift the handle are your passengers left in the rain until something else is done , and if it does release the other doors doen,t that make the car easier for a thief / carjacker easy to get in from the unlocked doors .

He is a character isn't he. Anytime you need an extreme view, just watch his videos.

Anything can go wrong with technology nowadays. Just a question of what you can live with/without.

The remote control still works so you can open your door for your passengers and yourself before you get to the car so although you will still get wet in the rain getting to the car, you will not get any more wet waiting for the passenger door to open.

My remote control can be set to open just the driver's door on the press and all doors on two presses etc. etc.

Not sure about that model but in mine you can select which doors open from locked in the 'Convenience" menu in the dash. Mine can be driver, all, left side, right side. Suspect it would be a VAG wide setting
