    Speed of Poli GTI

    Hi all,

I've got an app on my iPad called RS Monitor which can measure 0-100 and 400m times if you run it in your car with your phobe or ipad securely mounted to the dash.

I tried it the other morning in my Polo GTI before there was any traffic and clocked 6.18 seconds to 100kph.

The best I ever managed in my RenaultSport Megane 225 Cup was 6.25 seconds.

The Megane was a manual, 20% heavier than the Polo but 30% more powerful, so it should have been quicker but the DSG in the Polo makes a big difference.

I need to try it in my Golf GTI next coz that should be faster than the Polo.

Have any of you trief a similar app?

Is that measured by GPS or by a OBD Bluetooth adapter?

Only GPS which obviously has accuracy issues.

Yeah GPS is a decent way to measure steady speed but not great at acceleration tests as it often doesn't update fast enough.

Thoes Gtech type apps actually use the accelerometers in your device to measure acceleration and are actually quite accurate. It's the same as units like performance box etc.

As for the times I wonder if VW quote them based on straight out acceleration, not using the DSG launch mode.

    Hey guys,
I know that this is a little off topic (i.e the discussion seems to be about acceleration, rather than speed), but got this from a guy in Malaysia. Said that he was in a GTI Golf and that when he took the pic he was holding the camera in one hand while holding the steering wheel with the other hand - what a crazy man!!

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.
