The Golf already has plenty of distractions built in, the purpose of the HUD is to move them closer to where your line of sight should be.

I would agree HUD is what I use but then now I have 3 different speeds showing GPS in the multimedia dash unit shows 100 KM the cars speedo shows 104 and the HUD shows 98 it gets its readings from the OBD port . Very bizarre but then you have to make allowances for tyre size wear and then the factory can also be out by + or - 5% . So at the end of the day the GPS is my main one and I get nagging voice if I stray over for more than a few seconds . As for speed cameras etc whenever I stray into enemy territory {NSW} from QLD for work I will enter a small town and just drop the van into 3rd gear and set the cruise for 50kay it just drives itself at a constant speed without any fluctuation . The HUD has some extra little things it beeps if you are over revving whilst going up through the gears also shows fuel usage tacho is shown and a overheat warning , not bad for $75

I wouldn't be complaining too much about that... I get

    110kph on the analog speedo
108kph on the digital (MFI) dash
    102kph OBD
    100kph GPS/radar verified.

An easy way to check is to set your cruise control to 104, then view you average speed readout and hold the OK button to clear it. It'll then show you a more accurate speed.
