I posted this in the Tiguan section ,and was hoping for some advise ,no replies so i'm posting here
The Spare wheel
i know this has come up before but ,ive been offered a full size spare that could fit my Tiguan off a Passat
its a 235/45/17 but as my car is a 235/55/17 i know the circumferance might be slightly smaller but could it cause any damage ? i could remove the tyre and fit the right one but as its only a spare and might never be used .would it be ok ?
Hey mate
If your looking for a full size spare you are after a wheel/tyre combo you can stick on and not worry about till you get other one fixed correct?
If so (thats why most go full size spare) it is imperative you match rim/tyre size to your fitted rims/tyres as a rolling diameter difference will cause axle wind up and can damage your drivetrain
Thats why the emergency spare is not rated at more than 80kph and no more than 50klm driven on it to avoid damage
If your not going to get them matched just stick with the emergency spare because you will have the same limitations with your mismatched set
If its important to you to have a full size tyre spare (i was a bit obsessed about a full size spare when i got my new golf but with research i got over it i still get a nervous tick from time to time ) Change the tyre you don't need a superduper one but you do need one that matches otherwise don't bother
Happy driving
