who's lara bungle?![]()
i've got sorta a rant diary going on my computer, here's SOME of my entry from tonight after i was disgusted by what i saw on what they call the ''news'':
dinner was late, and as such, we were all seated on the sofas when the late edition of national nine news comes on.
okay, something important, but im tired and not listening. something else that sounds sorta important, still not really paying attention. some cricket player and some bingle split up, who cares blah, water restrictions for victorians to change okay, fiji in despair with cyclone, right, diggers' bodies from 1916 identified, cool....... hold on....... WHAT THE !@#$?!?!?!?!?!?!
enter the double take, the funds in my bank account rapidly transferring to the household swear jar, and all the fireworks factories of the world simultaneously inexplicably exploding.
let me get this straight, and i will get it straight in order of stories reported AFTER the bingle cricket thing.
okay. the north-south pipeline has been opened. it has cost $750 million to complete. it will feed desperate, thirst-ridden melbourne up to 75 BILLION litres of water per year, and it has been opened. as a result, water restrictions have been eased, and gardens are now able to be watered every second day. this is big fuggin news for the ''garden state''.
next story. the fijian government has declared a state of emergency, as a devastating, category FOUR cyclone annihilates their nation. a massive SEVENTEEN THOUSAND people have been displaced
next story. the remains of an aussie digger who fell in fromelles, france, in 1916, were identified today, and his family in australia notified as a site containing the bodies of a whopping 75 out of 250 australian and british soldiers who fell in fromelles more than 90 years ago, was discovered. this is huge for australia. world war one diggers personified the gumption, determination, guts, and fighting spirit that australians identify with.
all three above stories seem pretty significant to varying degrees right? - one relating to the state we live in, one relating to the nation we live in, and one relating to the world we live in.
WRONG. apparently ALL of the above three are, in the context of pecking order, INFERIOR to the break up of some cricketer and some ugly girl who would be no-where if she wasnt blonde.
the story goes like this: they've broken up. he's back on the cricket pitch. she's spotted coming out of a gym in sydney, and i guess just because the kind of people who watch crap like this need it, the reporter adds "seen coming out of her bondi gym AFTER A WORKOUT". !@#$ me. the reporter then goes on to say "bingle is holding onto her tongue regarding the details of the break up ..........(at this point, a shot of lara dropping her phone beside her car is flashed up on the screen, as the reporter continues) ........however, the same cant be said for her phone. im someone expendable, national nine news".
the alien in charge of watching australia's news reports as part of an anthropological study that the aliens are conducting before they come over to kick our asses, would be laughing gleefully at just how much of a pushover our country, at least, is going to be, when they come to fry us all.
alien employee: sir! come here and look at this!
supervisor (after having watched our news): hold on, did i just see them report about some almost-kid C list celebs breaking up, THEN some really important news that pertains to the water struggles that they've been enduring for years, THEN the plight of a small island neighbour as nature demolishes their land AND their people, THEN some really significant news which refers to an event in this nations past from which this nation draws much of its nationalistic sentiment? did i just see them subordinate all of those important stories to a news report about two effing nobodys who are having some relationship issues?!? you have got to be kidding!
unfortunately, mr alien anthropology survey team supervisor, it's true. as far as you're concerned, we're probably already bent RIIIIIIIIGHT over.
/endrant.

It annoys me as well.
The only news to watch is SBS world news but even then it is glorified to get viewers by promoting trashy stories.
No one cares about the stupid bitch and her silly ball playing partner.
I would rather know about the important things that happend that will have some influence n me like the fact i now can't fly to fiji for a holiday.
I have other issues with the glorification of people.
Like how we can pay large sums of money to someone with an IQ of 4 to kick a ball around while graduate scientists who may find the cure to some disease and save millions struggles to even get a job/paid over 35k.
Funny thing is goingup and asking people to name 3 australian sports people, easy easy easy.
Ask them to name 3 australian scientists and they struggle to even get 1 most of the time.
Is this **** still going on with that sour faced tart...I wouldn't touch her with Preeny's wang...
I totally refrain from watching any sort of news these days other than The First edition on Austar and listening to ABC Nation Wide in the mornings.
Newscasters have their priorities way out of whack these days. Whats happening with Bingle and Clark should have only made it to Womens Day, and thats it...
The identification of WW1 Diggers in France and the relationships to family in Australia is a revelation... I personally have 3 family members buried in France from WW1. For family's to finally know where former members have fallen after all these years should be front page all over the country. To know they have their final resting place, and not remain a faded photograph on a loved ones mantle piece.

Let's face it - 90% of the TV viewing / tabloid buying public are morons.
Why else would the daily news be saturated with the cruciate ligament tear suffered by AFL player X, or the Bingle/Clarke shemozzle.
Where was the news about the Kookaburras winning the World Cup? It managed only a tiny report.
As for SBS news - well, news about every minority situation in every minority country on earth , versus nothing about Australia.

Bad news sells, people like to forget about their own problems by focusing on the problems of others. It's like slowing down at the car crash to have a gawk for any injured / dead people.
One of the best things I heard a few years back was to remove yourself from mainstream media, you can be informed, but why be inundated? I haven't watched, read or looked for any mainstream news for over 4 years now, and I can confidently say I am still informed of any important goings on ( you can't totally escape it ), and there's a LOT more peace and happiness in my life. Be actively aware of what you fill your mind with.
Garbage in = garbage out.
I reckon I watch less than 50 hours of commercial TV per year, most of that is taken up by specific shows on SBS or Discovery etc when travelling.
Do yourself the favour. The "biggest loser" is the person watching.

All Aussie news is terrible.
SBS is almost watchable, Lateline is OK.
Then the higher the channel number, the lower the IQ of the newsreader and the audience.
Almost makes me get Foxtel to watch the BBC news.
The ones that make me laugh are the quick news updates on the commercial channels. Time them. its usually 50 seconds of "news" over 30 of which will be sport related.
