Just waiting for official confirmation.
Though, makes me want to avoid taking it to VW for a service - check-list of what they did to the car may have 'Cut Power' added to it...
Will be interesting to see the fallout from this post
VW Golf GTI hot hatch added to emissions cheats
So how much will this affect the value of those like me that have GTI and VW cars in general in resale. And if it/has been a lie who will join the class action.

Considering the GTI and R are performance models, I think any reduction in power would be serious. People but these cars specifically for their power figures. Didn't Hyundai do the same thing a few years ago? What was that outcome?

After a recent discussion with a VW service technician he stated that the recalls could well be voluntary. Basically if you don't want it then it is not mandatory. I guess we will see when they have finally unravelled all this mess.

My car will be tuned very soon. Couldn't care any less.
My R hasn't been delivered yet, should be about 4 weeks away and have been so excited for it, this new news makes me worry a bit.
Seriously considering bailing on it and waiting till the AWD A250 comes out next year.
Am worried about the resale and possible power drop if the "fix" becomes mandatory.
Well I collect my R on Friday. Not very happy about this. I just hope the local 'hot weather' de-tune it already has covers off the issue.

This article is all about CO2 emissions, not NOx or anything else. CO2 emissions are a direct biproduct of burning fuel - ie the greater the fuel consumption, the greater the CO2 emissions. The "cheating" here involved doing things to artificially lower the fuel consumption figures (and in turn CO2 emissions).
This issue is particularly relevant in Europe, where CO2 emissions are linked to registration and insurance tiers. Here in Australia it's much less widely cared-about. Local emissions tests will measure CO2, but AFAIK there are no fail grades for any particular level of CO2 emitted - certainly that's the case in NSW.
There will be no recall for this, no power-sapping, no nothing. Relax.

I don't think it's going to be a big issue out here. Not too many people would have complaints on their GTI's fuel economy if mine is anything to go by.
