For the last 10 years or so at the Uni of NSW scientists have been carrying out an experiment on the effects of carbon dioxide on plant growth. What they have found is once carbon dioxide levels reach a certain point plant growth accelerates dramatically causing etiolation, which means plants grow so quickly they stretch and become weak. Etiolation will devastate food crops, weaken trees making them more susceptible to storm damage, and if levels go high enough spell the end of plant life. The scary thing is, they claim that at the rate the carbon dioxide levels are rising it could be too late to stop it happening.

Also, can anyone explain to me how do they plan to calculate the amount of carbon each individual business produces?

For the record I think this carbon tax is a fraud, there must be better ways to approach this.

The deniers will say it is all just part of a big conspiracy anyway, so what's the point?

As for doing what's right - there is doing what is right and there is doing what is popular. The two aren't always the same thing. Ending slavery was right - it was not popular. Ending child labour was right. It was not popular. You get the point?

Using clean nuclear energy is right, but it's not popular...

+1 to that. Wouldn't bother me either so long as it was to fund actual progress and improvements.

Me neither. The problem is the inequality in the system. If you are unable to afford paying for your energy wastage the gov is happy to give you your money back.
As I see it is there is no incentive for anyone to change anything. If you cant afford it then you wont be out of pocket. If you can afford it then youre well off and you probably dont care so much about the increased cost of living.

So we get a system where people who are earning good money are just passing that down the line to low income earners with the gov pocketing the cream off the top. If the system is designed to back people & industry into a corner so that they change then I cant see how that will eventuate. I think they will just fuel inflation and inflation feeds on its self.

If anyone has caused any Global Warming it is the Politicians, rich industrialists and the Banking elite who have guided and funded international development over the last 150 yrs. It is they who have built the industrial complex and benefitted greatly from it. So why is it that the people have to pay? And who benefits from the money? The very same people who caused it. Its a big scam.

    Slightly off track

I can't trust Bob Brown for two things

    During the Iraq War

He wanted to charge Australians with war crimes basing his evidence on heresay... and,

Every time an Australian Soldier is killed in Afghanistan, instead of caring about that soldiers sacrifice and how their families are coping,
he uses the anouncements to politically grandstand and say "pull the troops out" like a broken record.
