Not a big phone junky, but I really like my HTC Incredible S. I get 4-5 days/charge (up to a week with little usage) (unlike some people with this phone it seems) and the camera is great. Most of all, it seems damn good value.

Another thing good about it is that if you own old VW's, it has a great built in torch, better than any I've seen on other phones

Lithium polymer/lithium "ion" batteries do benfit (like all batteries) from careful charge management in early life. Some good rules to adhere to with modern phones to ensure good battery performance:

    > only charge when the battery when its almost flat
    > try to fully charge the battery when you do charge it
    > never completely discharge the battery (like if the phone turns off and you keep turning it back on 5-6 times without charging it)
    > dont leave it on a charger forever

    My 2 cents:

I just got an S3 on Telstra.
I previously had a Blackberry on Vodafail.

    What I like:

    -I have reception
-Screen quality and size is great (I was concerned at first about the size of it moving from a small BB, but it's very slim and easy to carry)
    -Internet is quick
-Battery life is good (~2 days for me)
-Widgets (this is my first Droid)
    -Camera is good quality
    -I have reception

My S3 has been off charge since about 8:30 and current is sitting on 53%. I was hoping for an improvement over the S2.

The battery capacity will improve after you charge it several times, mine did.
It also helps if you turn off BT, wifi when you don't use it. I also set auto sysnc to every 3 hours.

Also see how many apps are running in the background and if they're all necessary.
Grab the Auto Task Killer app to help manage it.

BT & WiFi are in use pretty much all day. Couldn't be bothered turning GPS on and off every time I use it either. Could wait a few more days to make a verdict though, only got it yesterday. Hope it improves like you said.

Had the S3 since Monday, so far so good. I'd rate it above the iPhone 4s for my needs.

Didn't think it was worth starting a new thread for this but what do you guys think of the galaxy SII? The only reason that I'm not really thinking of the SIII is because it is significantly more expensive on a lower level plan (about $12 a month) and that is money that I would rather save to spend on my car (and I'm in year 12 so don't have that much time for a job).

So would I regret being a bit money tight and getting an SII over an SIII for $35 a month as opposed to $47 a month on Optus?

Is there any other phones that I should consider on a cheaper plan?

PS I'm currently with Vodafone and have an iPhone 4 but I find that particularly around my house the reception is terrible so I'm wanting to change

If I were you, I'd keep the 4 for a while, and if pre-paid isn't meeting your needs, just go on a BYO phone plan with optus or telstra even virgin (get your mates/family to check reception with similar phones with different carriers), iphone 4s (as in plural of 4) are a good phone. Keep debt down and save instead. My purchase was based on, needing a new phone and camera, paying close to the contract a month anyway with an iphone 3, and the amount the phone is worth at the end can still be a few months worth of contract (or a nice gift for someone in the family/friends).

Yeah I was thinking I might try and do a BYO plan and switching to Optus just because I know the reception is heaps better around my place (my mum and my sisters are both with Optus and my step dad and me are with Vodafone) and then I saw I could get the S2 for an extra $5 a month and was wondering if it was worth upgrading to that
