Lol I don't know the first thing about taking photos BUT I was using a tripod. It's a crappy little thing that's not very stable so I might have to invest in a better one. Timer? It's ok, I'm getting a mate to go through and teach me everything there is to know about taking photos and how to do it right with a DSLR

Maybe use the two second delay timer while on tripod? It eliminates shutter jerk.
