    Rim damage - where to

    I posted up a thread yesterday: it's here: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...res-67157.html

Basically I've got 4 damaged rims from a local tyre shop.

He has offered to get them repaired but is coy about who and the process used. I'm concerned he is going to use some cheap bloke and the result will be average. I know they are supposed to be fully machined and resealed and so far he is reluctant to send it someone like depulu who have a good rep. He may try and get it repainted (which was his first story until I kept on repeating that wasn't acceptable, I think he just then started telling me his guy would remachine it just to shut me up). Part of me thinks that the repair may end up being worse than the damage (if that makes sense) and the I've got nowhere to go.

Can I push him to use a reputable place where I know that the results will at least be acceptable? If he doesn't agree to that, is it reasonable for me to start taking other steps - such as taking it to the HO of the tyre chain and instigate a complaint process, or even through my insurer?

Dion - that really is a tough read (not the wording, just that guys like this still operate).
I would be pushing to take them to somewhere reputable. I would be talking to Depulu sooner so you can get an idea of what does need to be done and how much it is likely to cost. I'm up for new tyres soon, so if you can pop down to the reset room and let me know where not to go (but my denvers are already trashed anyway)...

Depulu did mine, slightly more expensive than other places but the quality is awesome, a great job. Dr Wheels would also be worth a try...

if they came back painted or not in the mint state pre tyre fitting id ust make them do it again and again until they realise it needs to be done by a professional. Only problem is u might not have a spare set of wheels to roll on like others.
Other option, best option would be to get compo in my mind, find a figure that both parties agree on, then go buy another set at ur own choice.
Machined wheels are so touch and go as it is, a tiny stone chip can lead to massive whiteworming problems later on.
