My 1997 Mk3 CL (owned since new) has always been out by +5 kph, once I realised I just compensated.

As others have noted it is part of our Australian Design Rules for motor vehicles, the very rules that nanny us with things like seatbelts for each occupant, brakes that work, fuel tanks that do not immediately rupture in the event of a crash, exhaust emissions that will not poison you and your loved ones with lead, etc.

Ummm, so if 1 ADR is good, then they all must be ??? Weird thinking.

It is so good that we Aussies get the special brakes that work and fueltanks that dont explode, the rest of the world is just so jealous .....

I really am starting to believe what the Malaysians think of us.

They do make sense to those of us who value their lives and the lives of their families.

The only weird thinking on here is yours and if Malaysia is so good go and live there.

A ride on a scooter over there does the world of good quite often

Dont slam the door on the way out

Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad. Sometimes you have to accept that somebody has made a considered, profession decision for the good of the community. We might not like all the rules but they are there to protect the community.

If you do not like a certain ADR, no problem. Put a logical and reasoned argument forward to the RACV on why the ADR needs to change and get them on your side to help champion a change to the ADRs.

No point wasting your energy attacking fellow VW fans here on this forum - it is not going to make VW Australia or VW Head Office change what they do with the motor vehicles they produce/import or result in a change to the ADRs which are the root cause of the issue you are having.

The last person to mindlessly bash the product on here was also asked to reconsider their membership.

OP is on my ignore list - I can only imagine what he has written.

Shame he couldn't use the search function - then he'd find out that this topic has been done to death. He might also find out how to minimise the problem.

Perhaps looking at his profile and flag he would be happier with a Great Wall or even a Chery. Quality makes, both of them, ask Victorians about the Chery

Talking about living in a cave on mars with your eyes closed and your fingers in your ears. This is nothing new, Oz cars like the Falcon and Commodore tended to be bang on. Toyotas were as well depending on where they were made. Mazdas have been pretty much 95 at 100km/hr since the 70s. Japanese cars stick around the 5km/hr mark in general. Euros are either side of that depending on the car. VAG cars also have a setting in a lot of them where you can change for winter tyres in the menu. My Hyundai also does it and they all do. Even my ancient Ford Meteor (laser sedan) was 5km/hr out at 100km/hr and it was sold by Ford but made by Mazda. Saved me on more than a few occasions from a fine when I was on my Ps and crept a little over. I just test it out when I first get it (old days I used those road speed estimators or a car I sat behind with a friend) and the compensate as I feel fit. With hire cars I either whip out the GPS or just use the speed it shows. Not a big deal and in the grand scheme of things if that is your biggest problem then I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to trade places with you.....

Just compare the speed displayed on your speedo with (preferably) two or more portable GPS devices for common speed limits. My own results are:-

40km/h on GPS is 42km/h on MFI displayed speed
50km/h on GPS is 52km/h on MFI displayed speed
60km/h on GPS is 62km/h on MFI displayed speed
70km/h on GPS is 72km/h on MFI displayed speed
80km/h on GPS is 83km/h on MFI displayed speed
90km/h on GPS is 93km/h on MFI displayed speed
100km/h on GPS is 105km/h on MFI displayed speed
110km/h on GPS is 115km/h on MFI displayed speed
120km/h on GPS is 125km/h on MFI displayed speed
130km/h on GPS is 136km/h on MFI displayed speed
140km/h on GPS is 146km/h on MFI displayed speed
150km/h on GPS is 156km/h on MFI displayed speed
160km/h on GPS is 167km/h on MFI displayed speed

Once you've identified the actual speed via GPS, you're pretty right to go at the MFI displayed speeds and you won't be pinged.

1981 Honda Civic hatch. Proper AUTO REVERSE cassette player. AM/FM with Stereo speakers. Four (yep, FOUR!) speed manual. Full cloth trim seats. HALOGEN lightbulbs! Factory options fitted: rear wipers and washer, "Go Fast" wheel covers & electric front windows.
