I'm surprised they issue the recall for the DSG boxes now, when the issue which raised the flag in the media (the women who was run over by a truck behind her) was on a manual.

My '06 Golf Comfortline had the same loss of power problem, and it's a manual. My partner nearly got run over by a truck as well.

Even though Ms Ryan's car was a manual (and what appeared to be a Mk5 Golf GTI no less, if the news footage wasn't lying) it got the ball rolling, which eventually led to a result for consumers, because up until then, VW were absolutely steadfast in their refusal to issue the recall in Australia (which had already been issued in other countries).

It was reported that the coroner will hand down the findings into the death of Ms Ryan sometime in July, so VW owners may (or may not) get their answers then.

IMO the hot button from was the fact there was a recall on the DSG in other markets but not in Australia. Whatever your thoughts on VWs (and I do love driving my Golf) Volkswagen just cannot do PR well at all... The press latched onto this because it feeds the perception (or reality??) that Aussies are always dudded by the car industry in general. Every couple of weeks there is story about how we pay a lot more for cars and parts (more than taxes alone would suggest) or how cars made here are cheaper overseas (Commodore in the US for example) etc etc etc. Add to the mix the announced closure of Ford's Australian manufacturing operations (not related to VW at all but it does mean the focus of the pulic / media remains on the auto industry)...

    My 2.2¢
