    Really frustrating VW fittings

    Not sure if others have had this experience because it could be related to the work I do . Today I fitted a sunroof to a customers Amarok second and now last one I,ll do . The end job looks fantastic but the frustrations with the internal roof lining fittings have made me make a decision not to do any more . In the past VW seem to experiment with various ways in holding things into their cars , seems they are still perfecting the ways to cause maximum grief . The Amarok and the VW Golf 7/6 / 5 are showcase technological ideas out of control . The Amarok has a single screw holding the sunvisor in place plus two screws holding the little retainer for the visor as well brilliant and simple fast r and r method . But then for some unknown reason it all goes down hill from there . The interior light has two screws holding the light to the subframe which is bonded to the roof lining itself , but the subframe cannot be removed without total destruction of the suicide clips holding it in place to the body of the car , this in turn tears out the mounting point of those same clips rendering refitting almost impossible . I had to in the end refit the subframe by drilling and fitting some screws in place of the clips . How long did this end up taking yep over 1 hour to modify .The actual sunglass holder itself had to be removed from the subframe on the bench as it is impossible at all to remove it in the car it just cannot be done !! Now the grab handles are another piece of art . Trying to remove the locking inserts is right royal pain in the bum but refitting them is worse , you have to reshape the end which goes in first as they have squared off the ends making it impossible to refit the locking inserts in the original form . Anyone who has removed internal fittings in the Golfs would know how even more frustrating it can be to remove similar parts . I would love to see the ba^#*^d who came up with these fittings try and remove them without destroying the same parts . So installing the sunroof from scratch 6 hours refitting all the stupid clips and others 2 hours , no wonder I had to down a few bourbons afterwards . Please VW go back to simple screws Pleeeeease .

    So our cunning plan, to force you to buy as many spare parts as possible has failed.

    We will have to re-double our efforts and focus on Operation CLUTCH FILTER which sees us only offer dry DSG boxes across the entire model range and fit exhaust particle filters to the petrol engined vehicles with disposable EGR which can only be replaced after removing the engine.
