Let's assume that the cop didn't see any of these, should he pull people over for other offences or should he just sit on the side of the road waiting for these specific ones that annoy you?

Considering they were obviously not commiting any sort of offence thats like saying "I want to play soccer, but cant find a soccer ball, so I'll just go kick the neighbours children."

    Maverick,
My "preference" as I worded it "could" make for safer roads. I never said that they specifically "annoy" me. It is how it is.

Off course he/she should pull people over for other offences. "Other" being the operative word.
Unfortunately, these general offences that I mentioned, "appear" to get overlooked on a daily basis.

I just don't believe that the number plate cover/frame issue should be as high on the priority list as you do.

I'm not disagreeing with what you're saying, I would like to see zero tolerance for all the vehicle defects but let's be serious there isn't enough police in the country even if all of them were tasked for 10 years to clean up the roads. It's easy to criticise the police when you don't know the full facts which we don't and won't in this case. I prefer to look at it as he's doing his job and there were probably other reasons other than glare from a number plate cover that led to him pulling over the OP.

I never said that number plate frame should be high on the priority list however the police officer believed there was a problem and spoke to the driver. If a law is being broken I expect the police to act no matter how trivial. We don't know what else was going on as I said earlier so sitting here and judging the officer based on a biased report of what occurred (and yes I've been biased before when telling stories about being pulled over) is not in anyone's best interests.

Wow, a lot of hot air and venting considering a fine or defect wasn't even issued.

Imagine if the OP was fined, this thread would 300 pages by now.

It's a good thing the OP was wearing his seatbelt - a safety message from your friendly witness protection program.

(hopefully that's distracted the angry mob)

I didn't necessarily think a thread needed to have an apparent direction? I mean, it's a public forum, i thought the idea was to diversify with other people and their views? It would all be a little bland if everyone came here and expressed the same opinion as everyone else would it not? Why can't a discussion/debate be had without calls being made how "pointless" it is?

I dunno, maybe i'm just ignorant.

Haha! Nice, Hooba. Looks like her shocks are beginning to sag though, might be time for a set of new ones.
