Haha, I remember hearing you say "I'm going to sit back and watch this" and then I thought that's probably not a bad idea and slowed down a bit earlier too heading into T1, think I overtook about 3 people or more coming out of that corner.

Here's the first qualifying race (not for points), the others are currently uploading:

I got taken out early due to lag on someone's part but no big deal. Was very close to getting Velly on the last lap but figured I should play it safe on my first race Completely forgot about drafting through.

I also wasn't sure if I was allowed to drive through the diagonal lines on the right as you enter the first tunnel...

Am I always going to be called 'fella'?

It was a great race which is why I wanted it to last longer. My initial plan was to keep you stuck on the inside for just long enough so that you'd go wide into the wall after the 2nd last corner, whereas I'd brake sharply and do the criss-cross. Sadly that didn't happen.. but it was inconsequential based on the next race anyway.

    Speaking of.. it's now uploaded:

    So much for clean racing
It's only after I go flying past Rod in the tunnel and then he comes back in front out of nowhere that I realise drafting has a big effect.

Have you posted points tables anywhere? After a 2nd and two 1sts I'm wondering if I'm not last

Forgot to post the two main races for those are were interested in checking things out before joining:

    Toscana Race 1

Because I had set the fastest lap time I was probably too anxious to get ahead too quickly.. also I had completely forgotten about cold tyres so all my brake markers that I found in qualifying didn't work for the first 2.1 laps. Settled down and focussed on taking the two hairpin corners as quick as possible so that I could get up those steep hills considerably faster than most others.

    Toscana Race 2 (reverse grid)

Just had to repeat my performance. I was surprised to catch up to 1st and 2nd since I figured they would be taking in turns drafting to go faster. Once I did get first madshammers latched on for the ride (drafting) and we had almost a whole lap going side by side. On the first hairpin he didn't quite give me enough room on the inside but no dramas caused. Then on the next hairpin I didn't expect him to dive down the inside at the last second so I had to adjust my line. Then a few turns later just before the ascent I saw he was just far enough behind me on the right for me to cut along the apex.

Great track, great car, great night. Looking forward to next week.

Stupid question from a newbie - since when does GT5 have the 86 in there.. are there updates online or something? (I'm sure I have GT5 at home lol but it's a lot older than the 86.. )

I've also never tried the online thing; would you guys mind posting some laptimes for a basic car and track so I can perhaps check how far off I am being vaguely competitive before joining up? I sometimes get addicted to these games but historically am quite hopeless

(thus why I spend more time on fantasy sports me thinks)

Check out the lap times I posted in those videos on Sport Soft tyres on the 86.

The 86 is a free download from the PSN Store iirc. There are other cars/tracks that you can buy.

I don't think you have to worry too much about your lap times since racing with other people changes everything. i.e. I was practically last in SS7 until a bunch of them all crashed and then I finished 2nd. If you're slower you'll be given tyre/car advantages anyway.

Ahh.. gotcha.. I'll have to try and get on there and do a download then - seems like a good long weekend project.

Agreed racing with others does change stuff, I remember networking Microprose GP (the original, not the less impressive second version) with a mate and running F1 seasons until dawn.. although I had a reputation for 'getting creative' on the first corner.
