Pre-Purchase inspection

Hi All,

I am about to purchase a golf GTI, and looking to get a full inspection done especially the DSG gearbox considering the car is outside manufacturer warranty.

Any recommendations?

The best way to do a DSG check is to take it to Volkswagen and have them scan it. Their VAS scans far deeper than the common VAGCOM cables we can get. It'll tell you everything wrong with the car.

You could just get someone in the area to help you out with a VAGCOM cable which will scan and show some of the faults (if any) but if you want real piece of mind you'll have to take it to VW and have them do a full scan.

Do you know how much they charge?

Do any VW dealers also do a comprehensive vehicle inspection?

Usually around $70 for them to do a scan on your car. At least that's what it cost me for 15 minutes of their time and a scan last time I had an issue. As for a comprehensive vehicle inspection, I wouldn't have a clue. The VAS should tell you everything that has any form of communication with the ECU. The rest would be a visual inspection.
