You could do something with the rear muffler (i.e. upgrade) to get more of a visceral note.
Both cars stock?
Asking if anyone noticed the pop from dsg. Asking because I had a gti mk6 and it poped louder. My Golf R hardly does it is it normal. I liked it on the gti bit disappointed it doesn't do it as much on the R.

Get a 3" SPM Downpipe (or another brand for that matter) and you'll hear the pop anywhere around 4K RPM. Try going to 4.5K - 5K RPM and gearing up. You'll hear the Signature DSG 'fart' very clearly around there.

Mine does it pretty much all the time, however if your driving mainly in "D" then you really won't get it to do it, i drive mine in "M" most of the time and its pretty loud even with the stock exhaust.
I did this launch control vid and i started off on "Sport" then at the second corner i changed to "M" and you can hear the difference.
some pop more than others...same with the gti 5 and 6..sound changes with age and carbon build up inside the exhaust..mod the exhaust and yes its louder and a better dsg change pop! ...VDUB....
