    i dont know about the manual gearbox i testdrove the auto. i guess the downside of vtech is you need to flog it to get some power. you dont want to be redlining whenever you want the power.
    the only reason im pushing for the passat is drive quality & 180-190kw with some minor adjustments
    VW Passat Sedan: 4765cm length / 1820cm width
    VW Passat Wagon: 4774cm length / 1820cm width
    Honda Accord Euro (new model): 4740cm length / 1840 width

    So yes, Honda Accord Euro is wider.

    PS Have you considered a Skoda Octavia vRS ? These have similar room to the Passat (but a slightly bigger boot) and you can get them with the 2.0 TFSI 147Kw (EA888 cam chain) engine (or the 125Kw TDI oiler if low rev torque is your thing).
    gregozedobe; here are my findings...

    VW Passat Sedan: 565L
    VW Passat Wagon: 603L (seats up)
    Skoda Octavia vRS Liftback: 560L (seats up)
    Skoda Octavia vRS Wagon: 580L (seats up)
    Skoda Superb: 565L (seats up)

    All very close in size.

    Honda Accord Euro (new model): 467L

    The above is the reason I got rid of my Honda Accord Euro Luxury, the boot is too small to kart all the kids prams etc.

    Not quite sure how you can say they have similar room to a Passat;

    VW Passat Sedan: 4765cm length / 1820cm width
    Skoda Octavia vRS (liftback): 4597cm length / 1769cm width

    The Skoda has shares closer dimensions to a Jetta (except the boot);

    VW Jetta 147: 4554cm length / 1781cm width / 527L (boot)

    Maybe because I was talking about interior room, not external dimensions ? There isn't always a strong correlation between the two. I place more importance on the interior space than the exterior size (and bigger external is a disadvantage for me). It was a while ago, but my recollection was that the Passat was slightly wider than the Octy inside, but seeing as I never carry 3 in the back that wasn't a big factor for me. I'm 190cm tall, and the Octy has plenty of room for someone my size.

    The Octy seemed to have a more useable boot than the Passat, as it was taller (albeit slightly narrower). As other have mentioned, a lot depends on the actual dimensions of the bulky objects you wish to carry. So if you want to fit a particular pram, buggy or bicycle, then take it to the showroom and see how well it fits in the model you are considering.

    Theoretical shopping via brochures and online data is all very well, but you still need to physically try out all the contenders to see which you actually prefer in real life. I preferred the Octy, which is why I bought one, and I'm very happy with it. Other people have different prorities and preferences, and so end up with different vehicles. As long as each individual is happy with their purchases then it is all good

    Do these volumes include or exclude the storage compartments on each side of the boot ? I find I can fit quite a bit of stuff in these in my Octy (first aid kit, fire extinguisher, window cleaning stuff etc.)

    I note that the Passat (with the same engine) is over 100kg heavier than the Octy, so that will have an adverse affect on fuel consumption etc. in the real world.

    Not sure if the official ratings for volume of cargo areas include the side storage compartments (inwhich the Passat has one each side, but only one in a V6 as the battery is in the other storage compartment).

    Combined L/100km 8.7 (ADR) 81/02 for Passat 147 Sedan.

    My "Real World" fuel consumption is 10.9L/100km

    Not sure how this has become a comparison between a Skoda Octavia and VW Passat. I thought we were comparing against a Honda Accord Euro.

    All my info above relates back to the topic at hand.

    Always good for future comparisons though.

    Your'e a taller man than I am!
    I bet your rear passengers struggle for room sitting behind you...

    I would feel confident that you could drive the Passat or Honda Accord Euro and still have adequate room in the back for passengers also.
