Paint Protection Or Ceramic Coating

Hey everyone

I just got my new Arteon, and I have been looking around at getting paint protection film placed on it. I checked with my dealer and he said that it was ok, since the car is leased. He said that they offered a ceramic coating protection that they would do in house, but I said I would look around first.

Do you guys recommend Film or Ceramic Coating?

Do not under any circumstance go with the crappy dealer product its expensive and bad will try and charge you the earth and be a poor product

Mine tried to charge me $1500 for paint protection i shopped around found i could get the same stuff done for $350 all the extra just goes into their pockets

Also if that's to much you can check out ceramic coat or opticoat but if you want the always just waxed look a ceramic/glass coat is the way to go

I have been in the auto industry now for nearly 50 years , in that time I have seen all sorts of wonderous things being done to cars in the name of "Protection " The infamous electronic rust prevention gadget promoted by the late Peter Brock was even doubted by many as a charlaton product .Paint protection is nothing more than paint molecule modification , the stuff is nothing more than a $25 jar of glorified polish when applied it heats the paint changing the molecules so it becomes harder blah blah blah now days with clear coat over the original paint that one does not have much effect at all . So dealers make a fortune from this one , ceramic coating is the latest buzz word but like any of these products it come down to how you store / park your car . If its out in the sun from 7am to 5 pm then you will find deteriation over a number of years regardless of whats applied . Most of these things are gimmicks , I borrowed this from a Toyota Forum and the guy makes sense .

Speak to and Body Repair Shop operator and ask them what they think of "Paint Protection". In other words, it's rubbish!
If you can't be bothered spending ONE hour, every couple of months, treating your investment to a bit of TLC, you probably don't deserve to own it..
Some Meguiars, or Mothers, or Autoglym or other Top Quality polish is all you need. (Detailed videos on Meguiars web site)

Just make sure that you never let junk like Armorall near your car and NEVER use dish detergent to wash it. Also, never wash it in sunlight, find a shaded spot and dry it immediately, preferably with cotton Terry Towel that has been machine dried (no fabric softener).
I had a friend do a freeby Clay bar job on my VW Transporter a year or so later it looked a bit ordinary and decided to revert back to waxing again DOH after waxing it looked like S***t I ended up having to hand clean the van all over with a GP Thinners to remove the wax that I had just put on and the original Clay bar stuff as well { the two were not compatible } once done I redid the wax and it was fine . The van is my work van and has now over 320000 kays and is now 13 years old and when washed it still has the same shine as it had when new {except for the odd paint chip ding scratch etc . } I believe a little elbow grease every few months will keep your pride and joy a thing of beauty and not cost a fortune , even those adds you see on the internet where one half is treated are misleading you still HAVE to wash the car regardless of the treatment .
