To be fair a discussion about rules that affects young people's use of cars, on an automotive themed forum, shouldn't be that absurd.

"N" plate laws here in British Columbia are similar to P plate laws back home only they have no power restrictions.

I've seen an N plater driving a Lamborghini Diablo, AMG's and plenty of other high powered vehicles because cars are so damn cheap here.

we truly are run by a bunch of muppets in this country. They never fix problems, they just go and legislate against them and then never think about it ever again. Sigh

I doubt anyone would consider a Lamborghini or AMG "cheap" even there!

I'm not really sure, but a friend paid about $55,000 for a brand new Audi A4 2.0T fully loaded with every option.

And my friend's dad bought a new A7 3.0T for about $90,000... Audi's are cheap!

I know! And Canadians complain that THEY overpay compared to Americans! In fact, at one time (when the currencies were at parity) American dealers were courting Canadians by completing all the necessary paperwork to allow it to cross the border, saving Canadians thousands of dollars!

When I lived there, you were considered pretty rich, if you paid $50 000 for a car....

But in general, the cost of living here is higher. It's the price we pay for being an egalitarian society, where the lowest paid people are still paid pretty well, and protected with benefits. It's the price we pay for a society dependant on maintaining real estate prices 'cause everyone is so heavily invested in it. It's the price we pay when the solution for every problem is subsidies.
