If you go to Settings > More Mail Settings > Create an Outlook Alias you can reserve a few other nice email aliases that all receive mail into the same account/mailbox which is nice. I've got about 6 addresses with various formats for names + initials since I haven't made my mind up yet, most are aliases that already belong to me in Gmail so just protecting those like you would with a domain name.
If you dig around there are some other decent settings, so that you can send mail from Outlook.com as a Gmail address (after verification), plus all the usual forwarding and POP settings.
