    Al..
Yeh, I'd like a second hand Cooper Clubman S or the Smart Roadster. I also found a 2007 Smart ForFour Brabus (0-100kmh in 6.7 sec :O) around that looked nice too. But there is no way of persuading parents, maybe dad but definately not mum. Personally I don't see why second hand cars are bad, especially when bought from a dealer because they usually still have warranty or the dealer adds a warranty.

I know all about losing money on first hand cars when Dad got rid of his Freelander about 12 years after only having it for about a year. It really sucks.

To be honest, i would rather buy a second hand car that is a few years old, still has all the safety features and has a good service history.

That way i could dump the savings from buying a new car into a property.

Sure it sounds like a boring choice but it means when i am 40 and have the place paid off i can go and buy a porshce or something stupid

This probably doesn't sound right but is your mum a car expert? There's plenty of safe cars that weren't built last week. All the airbags in the world might not save you in the "wrong" accident.

Sometimes in the worst looking accident imaginable they don't go off either.

That Polo GTI for $10k, is probably what you will lose in depreciation over 3 years on anything else. I know that fact totally puts me off buying something new.

That is what I was thinking as well.
Also, when you are off the P's there is wealth of knowledge about polo upgrades and they can be pretty nimble (see Anthony's, Sam's and Sean's at Happy Laps)

They are certainly fun to drive And the more we do to them the better they get.

Sorry back on topic - is the Peugeot a manual?

Yeh mum can be really annoying, I know that there are safe second hand cars available. But mum is well, mum. There is no way of convincing mum for me to spend my money on a second hand car.

Yes both the DS3 Sport and 208 Sport are both 6-speed manuals but the DS3 has shorter ratios from what I've read. So I think I'm leaning towards the DS3, also because it's cheaper and there are definately mods available for it.

Alright people, I test-drove both cars. The clutch in the DS3 felt nicer and was easier to become used to than the 208. The 208 had nicer materials used in the cabin though. The DS3 had a far nicer meatier steering feel and I could feel everything the front wheels were doing. Both cars felt unbelievably quick compared to my current car. The torque is insane, full 240Nm @ 1400rpm.

Due to the recent price drop for DS3's, now $27 990 drive away for the dsport, I decided on a brand new DS3 DSport in yellow and black. Any options that are fitted to cars in-stock are free (no extra charge), reverse sensors, bluetooth audio streaming were on the one I wanted.

I only managed to reduce the price by about $600 because of the recent price drop but still and all, I think it was a very good buy. Pick-up is on Tuesday and then I play the waiting game for the exemption. Can't wait!
