Question Queensland Speed Limit Review - Have your say

Speed limit review - have your say (Department of Transport and Main Roads)

Im not sure if anyone else has seen this and made a topic. If so i will delete it.
Anyway, have you say in what you would like to be changed.

    For me;
If your not overtaking, stick to the left.
Increase the speed limit on the M1 by 10.

Hope you end up with increases, and not like what we ended up with in NSW - a (progressive) elimination of "confusing" odd-number starting speed limits - 70, 90. At this stage, 50 and 110 are safe...

Was it the M2 that was "upgraded" from 110 to 100 after being redone?? (in NSW)

Haven't been on the M2 since the upgrade - wouldn't surprise me though... I'd sounds like General Holmes Drive / Southern Cross Drive that went from 90 to 80 when the extra lane was addded. And the M7 (Sydney's one) seems too good a road to be only 100...

    Good luck Queenslanders..

Great post. Will be putting in my 2 cents worth for sure.

I think suburban speed limits of 50 and 60 are appropriate. If anything, some more suburban and city streets could probably be 50 rather than 60.

I think the M1 between Tweed Heads to Caloundra should be 110 the whole way at least, with the addition of a fast lane where you must do at least 110 and less than 130, and only if you have an open licence and you're in a passenger vehicle.

I guess I could forego the fast lane for a compromise if all lanes were made 120km/h.

i'd also like to see greater police focus on the motorways of people speeding through road works, driving in the right hand lane continuously, people talking/texting on phones, and tailgating.

I miss driving in Europe. Courteous drivers who actually know how to drive, and road rules that don't treat everyone like they're retarded.

The road work idea is a bit of a sore point for me.
The amount of time i drive along and slow down only to have people whizzing past me or sitting right up my arse only to find there was no actual workers or road works at all (just forgot to remove the signs) is astounding.

The great ones are when you get slowed down to 40 so they can upgrade a footpath...

Yes, that's a fair point. Sometimes they go a bit overboard, but basically here in Australia we go so overboard with OH&S and signage and safety legislation that it's a bloody joke.

So I hear what you're saying, and I agree that they should review the requirements for where and when and by how much such speed reductions are implemented, however when they are warranted, people should stick to the speed limit for the safety of everyone. Every time I drive though road work zones, I drop my speed, and a flood of cars streams past me.

    Yup.

What is it with the amount of retards who cant/dont keep left.
Better drivers can do safer speeds. London Orbital 100MPH not a problem. Thats 160KMH. If highways are good, and the newer Sydney ones are, then with some decent driving, we'd all be fine.

Get defective cars OFF the road.
Enforce uninsured, no Road license driver bans.

I find in a few places where the speed limit is 60 and it says to slow down but signage says slow down to "60" in a 60 zone plus there's no workers nearby!
