Thread: Officially Official: Volkswagen Amarok Pickup Makes The Scene

  1. #21

It may be priced to compete with the Hilux, but I doubt they ever knock Hilux off its perch.

Considering how bad there current cars are for reliability, I can only imagine how good these will be!

Toyota is the king in this industry & I think its still the largest selling car manufacturer in the world.

When I was in Kalgoorlie, you should have seen how many Toyota's were there! I seriously doubt that the mining industry will trade in all there Toyota's for VW!

Wishful thinking, but good luck to them anyway. They're going to need it!

If it was my choice between this & what its basically copied. The Holden Colorado. I'd take the Holden, as its been tried & tested in the States for donkey's years. My friend also brought one brand new & he abuses the crap out of it & it hasn't given him one little bit of trouble.

The Holden Colorado has not been "tried & tested in the States for donkey's years". It's just a new name for the Rodeo. Isuzu own the name "Rodeo" and Holden didn't want to pay to keep using it so changed the name of the Rodeo to "Colorado". It's still pretty much the same car.

I couldn't novated lease a T5 crewcab because of the taxation rules.

mmmm an Amarok would make a very nice tow vehicle for the race car. Might wait for a second generation one though.

Believe it or not from what I've read anywhere between 1100-1200kg for load capacity.

Isuzu developed the Colorado/Rodeo and while a version of it has been sold in the states I would not call it a real benchmark for the USDM.

In Thailand (the 2nd biggest Pickup Market) it is treated as a god under the Isuzu D-max label.

If Amarok was not in existance I would buy a D-Max or Triton.

My folks had an Isuzu Rodeo and I'm afraid it didn't hold a candle to the Hilux. Sounded like a tractor, and handled like one too. Yes, the Hilux is pricier, but their build quality and durability is far superiour to the Isuzu's IMO. That's not to say the Isuzu wasn't durable and capable, coz it was, but just not as good as the Hilux. Maybe things have changed, but I doubt it. I can't comment on the Triton though.

You also have to consider that almost every country town has a toyota dealer as the only car supplier for the whole town.

How is this going to be a viable option outside of major population centres if ther is no support for hundreds of Km's.

Yeah sorry what was I thinking.

I shouldn't post anything up without doing my research first, as I don't seem to know the first thing about any other car than apart from VW, but then I'm also questioned about them too!

So heres something for view viewing pleasure & hopefully you may learn something outside of the "VW are the Innovators & best in the world & all the rest are just Imitators" tunnel vision!

My friend brought a new Holden Colorado & at the same time he could have also got a Rodeo! He brought the Colorado.

    Why?

For the same reason I just posted. Its been in the states for years & proven its worth!!!!

    I see a Holden Colorado

Now I see a Chevy Colorado with the standard issue hard edge nose.

Now I see a Chevy Colorado Export with the soft edge front (which sort of resembles a Holden Colorado which allegedly has nothing to do with chevrolet & is designed & built in Aust. by Isuzu!

How about another Chevy Colorado. Seem likes the body lines are almost identical. Wonder why that is? Its still has a remarkable resemblance to a Holden I reckon

How many more would you all like to see?

Isuzu also make a Colorado called a D-Max which funnily enough looks alittle like the Rodeo!

What do you mean "another wave"

You would be horrified by what I see happen to new car's. Not only VW's but all types of cars & model's.

I see VW's that are less than a year old or have less than 30K on them & there are absolutely atrocious! One car actually took our poor car cleaner over an 1.5 hours just to clean the interior & it was still stained beyond belief! It really was that bad. This was also a high spec Passat wagon too!

People just don't care dude. Remember that something like 80-90% of people use cars as transport only! Thats it. Why should they care or look after it!

Not everyone is an enthusiast or into cars at all.

Another way I see abusing cars is having the "so called" enthusiasts buy a VW, BMW or Merc etc& they buy it for there "so called" reliability or most importantly there safety features.

Then they go down to the tyre factory or tempe tyres etc & fit the cheapest nastiest wheel & tyre package they can find & say. Thats heaps better!

But in reality the tyres are no better than blocks of wood!

Yeah real clever! Spend 40-60K on a car & spend $1500 on a wheel & tyre package!
