That is as opposed to the career traffic officer jerks on power trips who even the proper police despise.

Anyway the moment this thread degenerates and starts going around and around in circles as this topic always does I will be closing it down.

I'm surprised you didn't just close the thread. That's at least twice now that you've made similar statements about traffic cops.

Who are these PROPER police you speak of? The ones that turn a blind eye to what you do? Just close the thread..you've done enough to cause it to degenerate I reckon.

Ha, i was thinking the same thing.

Truth be told, having been pinged by one of these hasn't changed my thoughts on going 5-10 km/h over the limit, i guess if i was a habitual speeder then the loss of points and cash would do it......but going to the funeral of a 3yr old girl last Wednesday did.

Points and money will come and go...people you love don't.

Sorry if this was too heavy handed.

Proper police are the ones who actually investigate actual crimes and arrest actual criminals. Ie. Rapes, robberies, murders, assaults etc.
Cruising up and down the highway all day pulling someone up for doing 115 in a 100 zone (not me) and ignoring the idiots hogging the right lane, tailgating etc is not protecting anyone.

I've never had an officer let me off or turn a blind eye. I've had one speeding ticket since I got my license which was only in the last month or so and I copped it on the chin, the spot he was in wasn't a dangerous location and in my opinion had an extremely artificially low limit, I wasn't speeding intentionally or doing any kind of "spirited" driving, I was just driving along watching the road and and got done. It happens and unfortunately as is happening in nearly all countries that are using anti-speeding as the solution (and failing) it is becoming the norm for people to have a ticked and just expect to get done at some time in their driving lives.

Once again i'm not opposed to speed limits, I just want appropriate ones. I have no problem with 40 and 50km/h school and residential zones. It's 4 lane highways that go from 110 to 100km/h for no reason at all when they should be 130km/h or doing major upgrades on a road improving it massively and then dropping the speed limit by 10km/h and sitting cops down there all the time to ping everyone for doing the natural cruising speed of that stretch at 80km/h. It's the fact that every time a police car is on the road everyone starts hitting the brakes, driving much slower and generally becoming more dangerous because they're afraid of being fined even though they're not doing anything wrong (initially). Those of us who do the right thing aren't meant to be scared of the police but unfortunately we obviously don't have the trust in those that are meant to protect the common majority to do the right thing by us.

I've said these things before and I always will. I can't see anything changing my mind on this because if a child is wandering around on a highway or major road in the middle of the night there is bigger problems here than what speed you're doing.

And it's the personal attacks and inability to accept others opinions and the going around and around and around in circles that gets threads closed. Give your opinion, have a discussion but at the end of the day know when to walk away and just leave it at that. It's not that hard.

    Cheers,
    Trent

If you grip it too hard it will fall off...

Everyone should be accountable for their actions, whether it be speeding, or repairing a car to the correct standard... If you can't do this, then you should be able to accept the consequences...

i never said people shouldnt be held accountable for their own actions

my point was that why should another human being pay for someone elses actions just because they wanted to have a lil 'fun' on the roads??? ever heard of a race track or a drag strip google it

I Googled drag strip, and all I found was boredom... Humans have been paying for someone elses actions for years, just the way it goes... I have also heard of capital letters, apostrophes, and full stops too...
