No GPS?

Then I noticed it had a little portable GPS unit on the windscreen??

These aren't that old and for a price take with that many numbers in it I would sort of expect a few mod cons?

Then again, it could help with the resale.

OR the guy/gal can't figure out how to use the factory one. Have seen a few VWs recently with RNS units in them, with a TomTom stuck to the windscreen...

It's really just a commodore with a body kit and a chop top. That's why there is no GPS unit and why he didn't park in 1 million spots so nobody could park next to him. That's the most logical explanation!

It wasn't a portable GPS, it was a holder for the assortment of disabled/council approved parking permits that those who drive Bentleys and other similar marques invariably have

Is there some sort of Silk Road-type darknet that specializes in selling those sort of passes or do they just hand them around in board meetings?

Your all wrong. Owner was annoyed with pronunciation of the factory unit so he went to Aldi and bought a portable one to fix the problem.

Maybe it just made him sick every time he used his gps and he remembered his $400,000 limo has the same gps as our humble little golfs! The one in the holder probably has a diamond studded frame or something!

The real explanation is the ****ty genuine head units give you F all info regarding speed camera warnings and locations.

On a different note it's not often you get to drive a Lambo first time experience for me. Magnificent!!!!

Very sensible I have the same and the TomTom is 1000 times better than the RNS which as far as navigation is concerned is crap.

Garmins are nearly as bad Borrowed one for our USA trip because it had USA maps in it. Bl***y thing got me lost quite a bit as instructions either lagged behind or were early and sent us up the creek so to speak. It gave the wrong instruction in New York and it took an hour to get back on track and only after resetting it.

Good thing about the TomTom is that they alert you to speed and traffic cams and the maps are 18months newer than the VW maps. I used a Mio when I was in the USA. I bought it for $50 from Frys Electronics in Las Vegas

I'm still amazed just how crap the vast majority of built in unit are, even after market ones. Map updates aren't usually included for free and they don't do half of what a $150 portable does.

Why can't TomTom release a double din unit that car makers use? Surely it can't be more to licence that over what they are using now? Especially considering the portables are so damn cheap!


Apple's CarPlay (and hopefully an Android equivalent) might just be the answer for lots of people since they can then run better apps on the phone.
