Renting or buying? House or apartment/villa etc?

Mayfield, Adamstown, Broadmeadow, Warabrook might be a good place to start looking.

Yes it is a nice city - ive lived here my whole life and love it.

Are you wanting a brand new modern house, or are you looking for an older house that has been renovated? Without knowing your budget and requirements its hard to be too specific.

If you want a brand new house then you will have to look around Minmi and Fletcher area which is about 20 mins from the city and beaches.

If you are happy with an older place thats been renovated then perhaps start looking in the suburbs i mentioned earlier. We live in Mayfield and we have shops within walking distance, schools within walking distance, and its only 10mins drive to the major shopping centres or beaches/CBD.

I'd say the very high end of our budged is in the low to mid $600ks, but we'd also be happy to spend less. Who isn't?

Had a nice walk this morning in and around The Hill and Newcastle East which have a nice european flair to it instead of this artificial fakeness you see in a lot of other cities nowadays. Obviously not an area we are considering, but still nice.
Top of the Lake ie Warners Bay will tick all the boxes for you.

Chiming in very late here but I live in Fern Bay. 20mins to CBD, 10mins to big shops and 5 mins to beach.

Our 'suburb' needs a cafe etc but we have big flat blocks of land, lots of bush walks and parks aplenty for kids.

I don't live in Newcastle but I spent a fair bit of time around there with work, I have a soft spot for Merewether Beach (a terrible spot to watch the moving scenery jog by )

Suggest that if you are considering buying places outside of the metropolitian Newcastle suburbs, please stay away from Saltash, Medowie and Raymond Terrace unless you and the family love TopGun and "the sound of freedom".
