    newbie questions about DSG

    Hi all.
I'm a recent owner of a Skoda Kamiq with DSG transmission.

I've never had DSGs before so unsure what to expect, i only did a very short test drive before i purchased the car and did not notice anything out of the ordinary (in comparison to automatics)

However now that I've had the Kamiq for a while i noticed a few unusual things which I'm not sure if they're quirks of the DSG, the Kamiq or something problematic.

    Examples:

When stopping at a heavy incline, the car shudders when starting.

When in stop starting traffic, the car is twitchy and sometimes bolts do i need to be very careful with the accelerator

There also seems to be some mild hesitation at slow speeds in stop start traffic.

Are these normal in DSG cars?

    Thanks

When you stop on an hill do you hold it on the throttle or use the handbrake.

mine like to bound away from a start a bit Got used to it.

Yes because of the way its brain works EG you coast along slowing in traffic so its brain says : Oh we are slowing down so am ready to drop a gear. Woops hes put his foot down so have to change mind and go up a gear. Take a few extra milliseconds to do that

Welcome to DSG life! These traits are well documented across the internet, in reviews, forums and the like. DSGs need to be driven differently than a torque-converter based auto.

Thanks guys, I understand, it's better not to coast or be hesitant on the throttle at slow speeds, I just found it difficult in traffic, and even though I read about some of the DSG quirks, you never know to what extent, or how it will actually feel.
I guess it's a matter of either getting used to it or selling the car 😞. Regarding the hill, the car has hill stop, so after breaking on a hill, I just need to accelerate but it won't go backwards in the meantime.

Hill Hold keeps BRAKE on for 3 secs after releasing it. Will roll back after that . As for traffic just get used to it and realise how it works. Have had DSG since 2010 and still alive. I just go with the flow and its Ok . After a while it will become normal DSG must be Ok because they put them in Lamborghinis.
