Lol somehow I don't see AAMI taking the option of a $2000 wiring loom over a couple of $1 crimp connectors...

Check your policy, if the car is less than 12 or 24 months old, depending upon your insurer, they must use new parts. I even checked on this, and was told by AAMI that it must be the full new part. Only after the new car period ends can they start using wiring harness repair kits or whatever.

VGA doesn't treat their Audi customers any differently.

My friend's Audi S3 needed at new dashboard because the passenger side airbag went off in a collision (her handbag was on the passenger seat). The rest of the car was repaired in 2 weeks - the dashboard took 7 weeks

So, purchase a new 103TSI Highline in January this year, all good, lovely car, really loved it....until mid October when some nice a**hole loses part of his uncovered load on the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway at Mount White,, end result whatever crap it was, bounced up into th engine bay at 110kph going $6000 worth of damage.

Not a problem I think, even though I can't identify the person at fault, I have insurance, AAMI sorted it all out.

The problem is that $5000 worth of parts are all kept in Germany, 6 weeks later, still waiting for all of them to arrive. Level of care from VW Australia or the dealer - zero.

So, when I do get it back, straight to another brand for a new car. So long VW.

Unfortunate stuff. I live in dread of having to pay for something that's not my fault on the road. Sounds like the guys at the garage weren't too sympathetic either. (not real car nuts I'm guessing)

Its a little harsh to say you'll never buy one again, I can see your point of view and you should try around some other brands and see how they compare in terms of service. Recently I had my Audi in for a warranty claim due to rust I put it in was told it would be a week before I heard back for approval and then two weeks to fix...I had to wait 6 months before anything came about, calling at least once a fortnight and being assured it would be the next week. Anyway moral of the story is I think we've all had those awful dealership service guys who aren't as invested in maintaining their brand as they should be.

The thing about having their parts overseas, you would have to limit your car brands to holden/ford to avoid this. My friends hyundai i30's gearbox died(under warranty). took 3 weeks from Korea before he was back on the road, no courtesy car or compensation.

Anyway sorry for the long post, it is extremely disappointing to be let down buy bad customer service. I think someone said it before swing VWAustralia a call and have a little civilised chat with them about your grievances, might change your mind.

A complete new wiring harness, assuming it's either the front section of the main body harness, or even the ECU harness, would probably cost enough to write the car off.

Some would scoff at the idea of such minimal cosmetic damage leading to a write-off, thus unjustifiably condemning the car moreso.

A wiring harness expertly repaired, will be perfectly ok from both reliability and warranty aspects.

When it comes to electronic parts on VAG cars ( as well as many other manufactures) Don't expect any parts to be kept locally. Most of these modules are precoded to your car from the factory preventing them from being used on other cars. This is why it's minimum 2 weeks.

All manufactures are going this way for "security" reasons but all it does is cost you more and make you wait longer

I guess at the end of the day, it really comes down to customer service from VAG Parts department, or in this case, complete lack of, and then the complete lack of care from the local dealer. The repairer on the other hand has called at least once and often twice a week while the car has been off the road, so I can complain there.

But when VAG says the parts will be here on this date, and a week or two later they haven't arrived, and the car factor is zero, that burns me.

Hell, even my wives ex SP23 when it lost the BCM, which was a $1500 part, had one in the country in less than 48 hours. Now I know germany is on the other side of the world, but there is something called air express, and for the price you pay for VW, thats the least they could do.
