you wouldnt believe it but this afternoon i went into the eb store to ask about a deal with trading in a dead unit. he told me that to remove a stuck game that if you swithch it on at the back without pressing the power button on the front. now press and hold the eject button for like 10 secs , it actually released my cd. but strangly however it also kept the green light on , so i pressed the ps button on the controller and it booted up! , it appears that the orange light of doom doesnt only pertain to a over heating issue its just for a system failure in general. so needless to say its workign now!..........so i quickly traded it in for a slim. so now i have a working ps3 slim with 2 years waranty (hopefully sony have corrected the heating issue, the slim does have a differant cooling solution ) so now i can happily play ff13 and heavy rain wooooot!. thanks again all for the help. and pass on this work around to everyone else that gets the orange light of doom, it may just save a repair bill!

sorry for spamming but i have another update for those ps3 owners out there. apparently (after reading quite a few articals) the ps3 slim uses a new 45nm fabrication cell processor as appose to the older 65nm , meaning it runs alot cooler. not only that it uses less power. they have also updated the cooling solution inside the case too (like i thaught they did) k now im sounding like a sony rep , so ill just shut up . just thaught id share some info.

I just got a Slim Ps3 last week and already it's frozen three times. I cbf'd calling up, going through that crap with a huge company. If it gets more serious I'll take action though.

    Mike,

What a stroke of luck/genius..and damn smart of you to trade it in straight away!!

I've heard the newer slimline PS3 machines cope a bit better under duress.

    Cheers,

    Jayse.

If it's that new, box it up and take it back where you bought it. They'll likely swap it out for a new one.

What Rocket said, take it back to point of purchase and take it up with them. No need to get Sony involved just yet.

haha yeah more luck i think, cant believe it worked!. most complaintes ive read /heard about on forums tend to be from the older machines ( though that could be the fact that the newer machines juct arnt old enough yet)
just from feeling it in last day or so (i have been caning it a lil , playing ff13) its marginally cooler to toucha nd not only that the fan doesnt seem to want to work its ring out like my older one did.

I bought it from JBHifi online. I'm enjoying playing it atm lol, I don't want to let go of it. I probably should get it changed over. I might wait till i've finished the two games I've started .

Nah mate, it is on Assasins Creed 1. I might try that thanks, I't currently sitting on top of an old DVD player, wouldn't be getting too much in the way of air circulation.
