LCD's will drop pixels over time. But from what i understand they are pretty reliable. Plazmas have a limited life span apparently.

On the note of custom building PC's, i wotn do it any other way. on my 3rd custom built jobbie. Feels good once youve loaded Windows 7 on, and all ya drivers, installed games. and fire it up for first time.. !!! (ps, Crysis looks nuts on very high in DX10 ... last system couldnt play it ... upgraded Graphics 3 weeks ago and its awesome)

    Sorry for Hijack lol
what graphics card did you upgrade to? just about anything struggles with crisis, unless of course your watercooling with tri sli anyway.

well my microswave is back and operational , i pulled it apart and used a hair dryer to dry the componants. plugged it back in and it worked. im guessing all this rain weve been having has built up enough humidity to screw with the electrics. pulled out my ps2 which is over 6 years old and has never missed a beat ,.......... forgot how good gt3 is.

Yeow. One of my xbox 360s died for the second time. The one in my living room had died within a year as well. I just ****ed the warranty off, pulled it apart myself and fixed it. Did it to the other ones too.

I did buy a PS3 a few weeks ago too. Heard about the yellow light, but a lot less of them do it than the XBOXs.

    Hey Mike,

I had my Launch 60Gb PS3 go through the YLOD (yellow light of death) @ Nov 09 and took it to this guy in Melb. http://www.ausgamestore.com/ps3/ps3%20index.html
Cost me approx $150, got it back the same day and he didn't wipe my hardrive! It's still working a treat 4months on and i keep it on top of my entertainment unit instead of inside one of the shelves.
Another group who tackle this problem are: http://www.beetronix.com.au/gaming-c.../ps3-ylod.html but i think they might wipe your HD.

Seeing as you assemble your own PC's you might be smart enough to save some money and do this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U70SgRDVcBo (he has a further 5 parts to this repair on youtube) ( i wasn't cluey enough to even begin to try this!)

    Little grab off wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3
    Normal reliability:
According to Ars Technica, the number of PlayStation 3 consoles that have experienced failure is well within the normal failure rates in the consumer electronics industry.[124]

However, the BBC television programme Watchdog aired a report investigating the purported "yellow light of death" issue, which affects about 0.5%[125] of PlayStation 3s. The yellow light indicates a non-specific hardware failure.

The program also noted that the PlayStation 3 has a one-year warranty (typical of most consumer electronics products). Out-of-warranty PlayStation 3 owners can pay Sony a set fee for a refurbished console.[126]

In response to the tone of the program, senior vice president and managing director, Ray Maguire issued a document criticizing the program and citing potential attempt to harm Sony and PlayStation brand, and stating that the numbers of faulty PlayStation 3 systems the program mentioned are not evidence of a manufacturing defect.[127]

    Good luck with it all.

    Cheers,
    Jayse.

cheers thanx jayse nice info , i even thaugth of that option (taking her apart , seems pretty straight forward) , and after fixing it i was going to trade it into eb just to get a new ps3 slim (maybe they fixed the cooling issues , who knows) i havnt done anything yet cos ive been flat chat at work and dentist appoinments , so when i get some time ill make a decision to either bring out the heat gun or just send it away.
