Minister says Malaysian motorists lack respect

I just read this CarSales post, and had to comment.

If drivers don't want to give way to ministers, fair enough. I think VIP status has gone to his head. Respect has to be earned, and big cars, and 'better than thou' mentalities doesn't look like it's winning any friends.

We can have a slightly clouded view of how things work in other parts of the world. We are blessed with a culture that allows us to have a "heated" debate with out ministers that does not end with violence or death. The same is not the case in other parts of the world.

The reason that government ministers are whisked through traffic under escort is because in many cases they are under direct threat. I'm sure that the UK PM will go back to motorcycle escorts if his or the lives of any of his ministers came under direct threat. Just because we are not told there is a threat does not mean there is no threat.

I mean, why not do away with armoured cars as well? Don't worry, one of the reasons why C1 is not a smaller car is because of the armour cladding that it carries It also has a larger engine and uprated transmission to cope with the extra weight. Also, the homes of our own senior ministers are under 24 hour police guard, even though we may not realise it.

We may not see our ministers under direct threat, but they are in many parts of the world, and in places you might not have considered.

As an ex-Malaysian, they can lick my dog's toe jam to earn some respect! What a joke!
