    Michelin Pilot Sport 4!

    Hey Guys,

    Golf R MK6 owner here.

A while ago I was about to pull the trigger on replacing all tyres with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 (225 40 R18 92y) for $850 (including wheel alignment). After making the decision they got sold out, lol, but are being replaced by PS4 now.

Anyone got these yet? Any good?

The cheapest I was quoted was $255 per tyre while the Michelin website has it for $289 RRP from memory.

Should I wait or this is a decent deal?

    Cheers.

Already installed. Moved from Pilot Super Sports. Only have 200km on them. Stiff square sidewalls which aids turn in. Very quiet. Putting 1200km on them this weekend during a Classic Rally . I'll know more by monday.

Don't buy PS3 if your thinking of driving hard, they are a good touring tire at best. Great for everyday all seasons driving. Blocks on the tire are small and overheat easily with hard driving.

PS4 however returns to the performance roots of the PS2 tire. Bigger blocks on the outer of the tire, stiffer sidewall but retains the excellent channeling for all seasons driving.

Hmm I clearly get tyres in the wrong place, $850 for 4? I can barely find PS3s in that size for under $300 each. Will be wanting these when my new OEMs die off.

The PS3 was designed as a budget equivalent, as the PSS was the replacement for the PS2.
(At least - that's how I understand it)
Is the PS4 a replacement for the PSS, or the PS4?

I love my PS3's, but definitely going the PSS next time! (or PS4?!)

The PS3 are a being superseded by the PS4. I got quoted $850 at Jax tyre centre when michelin had the $100 cask back promotion. The 225/40 R18 were $225 minus $25 from promotion per tyre; hence $800 and managed to get $50 for wheel alignment. The quote was like a day or two before end of promotion. Then because I heard the PS4 are about to come out I had second thoughts on that deal; basically because the tyres are a runout the could be (up to) several years old.

The PS4 are meant to be a replacement for the PS2 and slot under the PSS but IMO they are a straight update on the PS3. It's confusing how the whole hierarchy works but Michelin say they are a major improvement over the PS3.

Hopefully there will be done deals before Xmas like 3 for 4 or a cash-back. Or might bite the bullet at say $1000 with alignment - take it or leave it lol.

Michelin is in the process of releasing the brand-new Pilot Sport 4 S (PS4S) as the replacement for the Pilot Super Sport (MPSS), which is not the same as the standard PS4 which is a more comfort-oriented performance tyre and successor to the PS3.

AFAIK, we can expect to see the PS4S starting to arrive in Australia in the first quarter of next year. They're not even released in Europe yet.
