Mechatronic unit programming and installation

So had my mechatronic unit replaced under goodwill by Vw but noticed the original price the dealer quoted me at first as U.S. $3400. This got me curious as to how much it would take to do the job myself on a dq200 7 speed dsg if one failed outside of warranty. Noticed that they can be had for as low as 840 euros online.

Is there any need to connect to a server to do the programming? Would vcds be sufficient? The installation itself looks straightforward physically due to the location of the mechatronic unit on the outside of the gearbox.

They need doing by VW unless it's flashed before you fit it. You'd need to be able to supply the softcoding to the person sending you the Mechatronics.

VCDS can't do anything for you.

You need the tool that holds the clutch forks in position to enable removal and installation of the Mechatronics.

From VW, they're pre-flashed. If it's a refurbished unit from an independant firm, it probably won't be.

Is the tool expensive Umai? Do you have a part number for it?

Ok so the unit that applies to my car is 0AM325025H ZDT. I purchase it from a Vw dealer to get the right soft coding. Install on car using the appropriate tools and use VAS to do further coding or is it that the preflash is sufficient?

Only coding required is for region, then basic settings need to be carried out. VCDS can do all the rest of it.

Is the region coding something that has to be done when placing the order via ETKA at a dealer level or can it be done via VAS offline?

All the mechatronic units I have seen for sale online say "mechatronic unit with software". Does this mean they are already coded to the region based on the last three letters of the part number?

Region coding can be done with VCDS and to be honest i don't think it really effects the unit.

Only thing i could think it has to do with is if other markets have different gear ratios in the boxes, however i have never heard information regarding that.

Ok seeing that this has been moved to General: has anyone noticed a breathing or pulsating hissing sound from their mechatronic units after the vehicle has been driven for a while then switched off? My original MU made no noise but the replacement does for about 20 seconds after the vehicle is turned off.
