I have the RMS/RTA e-toll transponder correctly mounted in my car.
I've noticed that when going through the Hammondville Toll Plaza it occasionally doesn't beep & I figured the battery might be on it's way out so I had it replaced on Monday (7/4).
Got my latest toll statement this morning (period ending 28/03) and they've charged me a video processing fee for the days when the transponder didn't talk to the tollgates. The odd thing is, all the failed "trips" were in the morning travelling West on lane 9 & no failures in the afternoon. Also only 25% of trips failed over an 11 day period.
According to the CSR at the RMS I "should listen for the beep everytime I pass through a toll gate". I asked her if she thought it reasonable that I turn off my radio, roll my windows up & try & get away from the truck next to me for every one of the 480+ toll interactions I do per year & she wouldn't answer.
The new tags are a lot quieter than the old tags.
The point of this post is that the RMS are charging for number plate recognition now (never used to), so those of you that share a tag among several vehicles & rely on number plate recognition will be up for extra charges.
Also, if you do appear to be having tag recognition issues check if it's gate 9 west bound as that's the one that gave me issues. I actually think it's out of calibration.
