Hey, my grandad bought this car back in 1980 as a retiremet project.. It came from a chicken shed.. completely rusty and covered in poo.. used the spare tire as a seat! There are only 6 mk8's in australia...
This car is full of amazing stories.. such as..
He found an original Mk8 timber dashboard in the Launceston tip one saturday morning back when scavenging was allowed.. How unlikely is that?? That (for him) was like winning the lottery!
Mum and dad bought back cow hide leather from the UK so nan could reupholster the front bench seat..
Grandad was never a rich man, he had no money to get things repaird by a professional, so at the age of 50 he begun doing night courses at TAFE in panel beating and spray painting.. uncle david did all the engine work
The car was filnally finished 20 years later and is now a valed part of the Jaguar Car Club Tasmania, and was the main attraction at the launceston auto museum for 5 months..
Grandad died in 2006 and left the Jag to the family in his will, so i am now a part owner
Here are some pics..
At the Launceston Club meet in 2007... looking fine
Lil bro off to his leavers dinner! All us kids went to our leavers dinners in the Jag.. The Jag has been in COUNTLESS weddings, including my brothers in 2007 and it will be the car that brings my bride to the church in October It is a massive part of my life and the main inspiration and contribution to my love for cars.
I know its not a Golf but i knew you would enjoy looking at her

Full props for doing everything himself. I really do respect DIY job's more than big $$ "wallet cars" (not that the workmanship on those is bad, its awesome!)
VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life
There are few things more satisfying in life than finding a solution to a problem and implementing it
