We just got the renewal notice for our Alltrack from AAMI. Out of curiosity I just requested a quote from Budget Direct and it was $45 more than the AAMI premium. And that's with $900 excess (AAMI is $650) and no cover for drivers under 30.
It's time to renew my Alltrack's insurance and as usual I get a renewal note from my current insurance company that is inflated compared to the price I'm given if I was a new policy holder (loyalty is no longer rewarded )
So I start looking at other insurance companies and managed to get a quote from Budget Direct Insurance that is 33% cheaper than I currently pay. I can't see the difference between the two policies so of course it starts to sound tempting.
Has anyone had experience with Budget Direct or any other "discount" insurance companies? What's the catch?
Is it better to speak with my current insurance company and try to get them to lower the cost? (I'll soon have 3 cars insured with one company)

I was with Budget Direct about 8 years back. They only want to insure low risk drivers in low risk suburbs with low risk vehicles.
I never had to make a claim so I'm not sure how they are with that.
When I started to make some minor changes (sway bars & wheels) to the Subaru I had at the time, they advised that they wouldn't be able to take my money at the next renewal so we parted company.
