    I i I i I i love you Very Much

Nothing to do with Carmen Miranda.

It seems every time someone calls a Golf GTI a GTi, some people fly off the handle and say "a GTi is a Suzuki." or something similar. This is hurtful to those of us that have real GTis, that is, French ones.

The first GTi I could find was the 1961 Maserati 3500 GTi, also the first fuel injected Italian road car. Of course, there were (and are) many French GTis. Citroen AX,BX and CX, Peugeot 106, 205, 206, 207 ,306 and 505 for example. Oh and also Suzuki, Nissan Almera and Proton Satria. There may be more.

It seems only the Volkswagen group gives "injection" a capital I in Golf, Polo and Lupo. Seat also had an Ibiza GTI at one stage.

So, next time someone calls a GTI a GTi, you can say "No, that's a Maserati" or "No, that's a Peugeot 205, the fastest point to point car of its day " or "No that's the World Rally Championship winning Peugeot 206GTi."

    Much better.

Im sure people can use some common sense in this matter and take into account the context it is used in to determine what they really mean.
Firstly, this is a VW forum, meaning that there are only a couple of cars that GTI would relate to (unless otherwise implied/stated), and it may be even more obious if it is in a mk2, mk6 or SEAT thread as well...

I think so people get a bit too picky over this issue personally...

Agreed! The pedantic nature of some posts in relation to this matter have annoyed me for some time now. Especially when the spelling and grammar in some posts is so bad that it wouldn't pass a grade 5 test.

That's interesting, I'll honestly admit that I've thought about it before and how different letterings might mean different things to different manufacturers.

    E.g.
    V5
    V5
    TDI
    TDI
    TDI
    TDI
    TSI
    TSI
    FSI
    FSI

    etc

While those might look the same, they each mean something very different. And that's why I love Volkswagens.

Or you could ignore them for being pedantic over the capitalisation of a single letter in a car badge.

I prefer to drive my GTI than talk about what it should be called. I've taken my GTI's badges off.

Ahh so you have a Golf with a GTI grill, GTI rims and GTI skirts? How do we know it's a GTI without the badges?

Just messin, but you get the gist of what I'm trying to say
