Hi All, I've just purchased a 2009 Passat CC v6 with a 6-speed DSG transmission. I had it pre-purchase inspected by MTA (who did a great job BTW) and learned a great tip from the inspector. In all my searches of forums I haven't seen this anywhere.
1. With vehicle in Drive (D), drive at 40km/h
2. Slip the transmission into Neutral (N)
3. Rev the engine to about 2500rpm in Neutral
4. Change back into Drive (D)
If the mechatronics select a gear correctly immediately, then all is well. But, if it stutters or takes perhaps a second or so to select a gear, it's an indicator that there's potential DSG problems with that gearbox.
It's unofficial, but apparently even VW service technicians have been known to do this test.
Hopefully this is helpful for anyone with fears about hidden DSG faults.
I take delivery on Wednesday. Can't wait!
