    you wont get stopped, i drove from syd to melb with no numberplates in my mk1, drove past police too and they didnt even look twice

    Didn't see a single cop to and from Sydney a few weeks ago. So I think you should be right.

    As it turns out, it was none. Filled up with fuel no questions asked too.

    Didn't really see many cops on the way, didn't really feel dodgy at all driving the car without plates until I hit home and had to drive my co-pilot home across suburbia, was very self concious, but still didn't have any issues.

    yeah... done the same tihng Melbourne to Canberra in a 1970 V8 Holden back in 2006. No issues, not pulled over once. It's not big deal really. You are legally allowed to be doing it with the permit. Only difference is no plates so no need to be "self concious" about it.
