possibly one of the 'drive my car' options...
the A5 cab from europcar looks ok tho!
(or train it to beenleigh on the express and i'll take you!)
I'm looking at heading up to QLD for the Oxenford show in a few weeks and am looking at my options.
While I would normally just drive there and back, I'm looking at just flying up for the day instead then hiring a car to get there and back. It seems Oxenford is about half way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast so either will be fine.
But to the important part, I'm looking for something different to drive for the day rather than the Getz and Commodores that most seem to offer.
I have found a nice Audi A5 2.0 Cab that could be a bit of fun and in the spirit of the weekend. There is also a Mini Cooper S Cabrio which might be something different...
Anyone know of any interesting alternatives??

Good work on planning to come up, great dedication. I'd suggest the A5 because hopefully this car could count towards our overall total number and hopefully will get us across the line and win best represented club.

When do entries cut off? I'm yet to confirm and book everything...
The other question is when the gates close for entrants since I would be getting into the airport at ~8am then, picking up a car then driving across so wouldn't be there till after 9am depending on exact flights and traffic.

says cars parked by 9am... not sure... try contacting rosmarie and tony (VR6 Pitcrew)...
Hertz have A3s & 4s, as well as Merc CLK200C from Brisbane Airport. You can get them from Coolangatta but from memory theres a premium. The standard rates are a little over the top though.

I've seen a Superb with a Europcar sticker on the back, so much VAG floating around the rental world.

Entering a hired car in a car show...
Will be good to see you there. There are the Audi's and Mercs as someone said, not sure what they cost though (but then again, if you think about the petrol it would cost to drive the vr6 up (if thats what you would bring) it'll probably still work out cheaper anyway hah)
It's ~950km each way, call it 2,000km by the time I bugger around a little bit.
On a trip the VR is down under 9L/100km so ~180L of fuel.
At ~$1.50 / L for 98 that's $270 in fuel.
Add in accommodation and it actually works out to be similar money to fly up and hire a car… although I DO like road trips… Just have to have a closer look at and fix the cruise control again (not that it's a deal breaker ).
As for putting a hire car in a car show… it's more about the sweet parking (That and I don't mind supporting the scene and throwing in a few extra $$ to help keep these sorts of things going).

My point exactly. Then when you consider that's 2000km closer to a service and tyres ect, flying and hiring a fancy car no only saves you a day of driving, but probably works out cheaper too.
Would be amusing if the hire car won an award.. haha
