highway patrol VS SS and XR coppers

    righto,

been thinking about defects alot now because sooner or later my time will most likley come......

im not 100% sure but id like to know:

who is the one giving out defects? i know standard patrol vehicles cant

i also had the idea that marked and UNmarked SS's and XR's cant either

    only highway patrol cars can

    OR!

can both marked SS's and XR's AND highway patrol cars defect cars?

cheers for future reply's i just need to know who to hide from while driving

    highway patrol

Are you sure general duty can't give you defects?

If not, I'm only guessing but I reckon highway patrol and unmarked can both do it. Although...I do live in NSW so it depends what sort of information you want!

The RTA website might have it mate.

I believe any of them can, though generally it's left to TMU to deal with defects. Highway Patrol generally have a fair idea if something isn't legal too, as opposed to the regular cop who thought my mate's aircon condensor was a "Factory fitted front mount" LOL

Ive only ever seen traffic cops giving out canaries. That is BA/BF Xr6 and VE SS thats including highway patrol, marked or unmarked. They are all prity much highway patrol just without the fancy stickers. Most of the traffic cops/highway patrol are more arrogant and harsh, every cop ive asked says its down to them being alone all day. I have never heard of a normal cop car giving out canaries or a normal unmarked but i dont see why they cant, not much you can do or say about it, there cops after all.....The difference is the attitude.

Just stay away from the bacon all together man.

As far as i have seen with my own eye, yes, just the "sports" ones bother with it.

Mickey's right for NSW - any cop can give a defect.

I'd guess that if there are restrictions in Vic on who can issue the defect notices, it'd be down to the type of cop they are rather than the car they drive - in NSW, HWP drive marked and unmarked cars as required for what they're doing at the time - and whilst they're generally in specific HWP cars when in a marked car, a guy I play cricket with is a HWP officer, and I've seen him in a general duties car at times.
    Nothing to see here...

In NSW unmarked and highway patrol can defect you, however the unmarked are less likely to do it. ive been driving a wagon thats too low and has straight piped exhaust in sydney, and ive been giving it a good go (so its pretty loud) and looked in the rear vision mirror and there were undercover cops behind me. as soon as i saw that, i didnt let the revs pass 2500 rpm, and they followed me for at least 10 minutes, but ended up just pulling into the lane next to me and stopping and staring at me at the lights.

bit dodgy because it was a company car
