what ever you decide, make sure you get the insurance company to provide their advice in writing.
the last thing you want is a claim denied later on something "you thought you understood" but they "would never have offered anything like that"
I went with Youi for mine since none of the insurance companies up here would cover mine for upgrading wheels and intake............

thank you, my grandfather is with AAMI so looks like im going with them when he sets it all up im going to get him to ask about it all... because i am going to mod the car and i want to be covered. if they cant provide that service we will simply go elsewhere.
it's probably a combination of your age (under 25?) & the mods? There are plenty of companies that won't insure a car with mods (Budget Direct, etc)
Why not worry about buying the stock car & insuring that first & address the mods when you want to do them - after all it's illegal to try & insure something that isn't fitted to your vehicle.

I go through just car the support all kinds of mods at no extra charge. And are pretty damn cheap compared to everyone else. I'm 18 too.
my age dosnt matter till i do my insurance for my P's still 10 months away. for now its all just my granddads insurance.
thanks
check out http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/...edvehicles.htm
specifically the definition of a prohibited vehicle for probationary drivers... A vehicle that "has an engine that has been modified to increase the vehicle's performance (other than a modification made by the manufacturer in the course of the manufacture of the vehicle)"
also if you do choose to drive it, it's quite possible that your insurance will not cover you in an accident if your car falls under the above description
I'm with AAMI and they stated that they would not cover me in an accident. before I had received an exemption for vicroads to drive my car, and it's only a stock 118TSI, so I suspect that it would be the same case for you
it's possible that you could apply for an exemption for a modified car, however you would have to show that you require a car, and no one in your family has a car you can borrow, though the application process requires you to already have the car, and in your case, I assume modified, before you can apply, and then they may turn you down

my very first car as an 18 yr old was a 2L Escort.
Came with after-market wheels, and tyres, lowered suspension, short-shifter, mandrel bent 3" exhaust and extractors, oversize sidedraft carbs, race-cam, port and polished, blueprinted cylinderhead, oversized valves with triple springs, 50 thou oversized, high compression pistons.
Ive never had a crash, never died, and only lost about 4 demerit points in my entire life.
Buying that car as my fist car fuelled a passion that will live with me until I die (hopefully of old age) and i believe has helped to make me a better, more alert driver in the process.
Just because the OP is on Ls/Ps shouldnt deny him a passion, as long as hes sensible and combines passion with safety and common sense
