I agree modern cars are typically more powerful, but I didnt have the benefit of power-steering, ABS, TC, ESC etc etc

I think mods can improve the car and driver, as long as its done repsectfully, and yes there are a lot of brain-dead idiots with too much power at their disposal, but we shouldnt all be tarnished.
120kw in a <1000kg body would have been rewarding.

A mate at school had a new RS2000 (1978/9). It was unmodded. He rear ended it several times. Had all the front adorned with Hella Rallyes. I think Hella doubled their profit that year.

I was most careful when on my Ls & Dad was sitting beside me. Once I had my licence I proceeded to have half a dozen crashes in 2 years - mostly single car. Thank God I only had a 1969 Torana 1200 or I probably would have been dead

GL Mr Hennesy. Maybe kids are more mature these days?

My generic Bluefin remap lifted my power by 15% (118kw to 135is) and my torque by 30% (250Nm to 325ish). It took 25% off some of my in-gear overtaking times & if the road is wet I can get wheelspin in the first 3 gears if I want to be a nob. A more focussed remap would do more. It's not what I'd call a small increase.

Having said all that, I intend to teach my daughter how to drive in the same car with the remap - might even give it to her (sans remap) if she isn't a leadfoot.

Again, GL with it, maybe you have your head screwed on better than most (inc me)

good to know some more figures and well i have been in the typical peer presure situations with cars when a mate of mines dad was my fully lisenced driver and he wanted me to give it some and my mate was trying to get me to aswell but the road had some traffic on there and i have been in a car that has crashed due to "Typical P-Plater" behavior... i dont see why i would spend so much money on a car to ruin it or just be a ****. if i was going to do that i would be buying a bloody commodore...

im not trying to say im smarter or better than others im just expressing my views and my exp.
i personally dont care for all the bull**** (burnouts and racing) its not my thing... but i do like to have the power behind myself that if i want to overtake or whatever i have it there. also it just makes things easier... not having to floor it just to overtake someone

    Brad, I do love Escorts. Here's a 1980 RS2000 I owned and built up from a 70kW baby to a 260kw turbo monster

very nice. I'm partial to orange & yellow cars. The Torana was orange.

I also had a bright yellow capri 1600 (hiding behind the slugbox Holden Kingswood). Unfortunately the Capri was slow when I bought it & slow when i sold it, despite me spending a fortune trying to make it faster. The rust in that thing put me off Pommie Fords forever. I endured the Capri for a couple of years. The Kingswood lasted 4 weeks until I moved it on.
