I got a lift in an R32 GTS-4 with a 700+hp RB26 in it the other day, and wow just wow. I couldn't stop laughing the whole time, it was the most ridiculous vehicle I have ever been in!!!

I hated the driveline vibration in the Evo 9 as I felt every revolution so yeah it was let down by that. Saying that the 6 TME is a very special car I look forward to driving soon

The Evo Lancer is based on the bog standard Lancer - highly modified, yes, but nowhere close to "designed-from-the-ground-up-with-but-one-purpose".

There's no doubt that it's a quick car, but its humble heritage shows very clearly in the cabin interior - cheap plastic, etc.

Went round the block, there were some nice straights, roundabouts. This thing flies, go out of a roundabout in 2nd, pulls really well, then brakes hard for the next corner. The bov is loud when you floor it, but nice when you don't.

Only mods, filter, exhaust, bov, coilovers. It's dead quiet in normal driving, the coilovers aren't at all harsh, the exhaust is just for performance gain as it's not loud, the cabin with windows up is quiet, NO rattles! The awd makes it so stable on the road, way better than any fwd car I've been in to date.

I was so impressed by this car. To think I once thought they were just cheap track cars! I can see why people buy them. The owner often tells of thrashing most other cars on the road and I well believe it. If you haven't had a good run in an Evo before, go do it!

    Just thought I'd share

They are seriously quick, you should go out in a BMW M3, blow an EVO away !

From a quality perspective, undoubtably. On a track though (particularly one with lots of corners), I wouldn't be so sure.

There is a reason why these cars dominate GTP Car championships, Bathurst 12hr races etc. Here's the results of the 12hr race in 2009:

    1 #1 R.Salmon/T.Longhurst/D.White – Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution - 239 laps
    2 #55 G.Crimp/T.Ricciardello/S.Kostera - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
    3 #35 J.Bargwana/S.Knight/B.Jones – Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution – 238 laps
    4 #43 D.Wall/D.Wall/T.Symonds – Mitsubishi Evo IX GSR – 237 laps
    5 #11 B.Morcom/L.Searle/P.Stubber - BMW 335i
    6 #3 S.Jones/K.Wade/A.Caratti – Mitsubishi Evo IX – 235 laps
    7 #23 S.Briffa/M.Zukanovic/T.Sipp - Holden VE R8 Clubsport – 231 laps
    8 #20 G.Holt/P.Morris/R.Shaw – BMW 335i – 228 laps
    9 #24 G.Walden/B.Walden/M.Auld - Holden Commodore SS
    10 #62 T.Leahey/P.Hill/E.Bana – Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

For what it is, it's a bargain. If you wanna go racing on weekends this would be the best bang-for-buck car.

Regardless of there build from humble Lancer beginnings they share close to nothing with the base $20K model other than the chassis and 'cheap' plastics. Everything else is quite different.

They're undoutably a great car, and have been for years.

The chassis is a pretty major component of a car you know!

The drivetrain is different (and is itself a major component, sure). But the earlier comment that they're "designed-from-the-ground-up-with-but-one-purpose" was simply not true.

not a word of a lie

he was a tech at vw (got fired on friday)
his was an evo 7 ( only performance mod was a CAI )

and from about 110 to 180ish i had him by 3 car legths

and i was side my side with my evo 6 from about 20 kph to 130 ish and that was stock with a pod filter and custom catback i made up

but keep in mind an evo was never built for straight line speed and thats not why people like them
