I'd really love to know how your VR6 achieved this, given the power/torque/weight factors involved. They may not have built purely for straight-line speed, but they are not slow cars, by any stretch of the imagination. From 110km/h to 180km/h, I imagine pretty much always under load and on boost...
And dare I ask where said racing was taking place?
wow man so this means that my v6 bora would walk away from pretty much everything!! how come though i get smoked by any current hot hatch? wait are you saying that hot hatches are faster than rally bred road rockets? next time tell your mate to bolt the turbo back on...i mean my car is faster than any current lambo - they are doing 60, i'm doing 65 and smoke them easily :D
Go the EVO, massive fan of the Evo's! 6.5 will always be my favorite.
S**t loads of them back home, from 1's through to 10's, even station wagon Evo 9's. Everywhere you go you see them back home, such a awesome car and they are cheap, or you could just get a GSR 1.8 but i still see plenty of them doing 10 sec quarters.
Last i saw the fastest Evo (Quarter mile) did a 8.23 (Evo 3) - straight, side ways, not a problem.
I am a big fan of EVO's I wanted to get one before I got the Polo GTI but they were just a bit out of my price range at the time.
I got to drive a TMR 220. I believe there are only 4 in existance. I have also driven a WRX with 220kw at all four and the EVO is a nicer drive.

Yup, you can get them doing under 5 easily enuf with mods, but they aren't that quick standard. Early to mid 5s with a good launch I believe. Mitsu claimed 6.1s to 100 but they were uicker than that. 195KW I think stock.
