    Golf Wagon vs Jetta Wagon

I was under the impression that the Golf was introduced as a hatch back. That being the case, why the Golf Wagon? Wouldn't it have made more sense to have introduced it as the Jetta Wagon? The Jetta is often thought of as a Golf with a boot.

Maybe becasue more people associate the image of VW with a golf.

The jetta was only named as the mk5 model here.
Previously it was the bora so many people will know the golf name over the jetta.

Also becasue most of the jetta owners i see are old people.

There is a Jetta wagon, however i dont believe we got it here.
Not sure if it is a mk5 of mk6, but it has a jetta mk5 front on it.

That is the Mk5 golf wagon, however as the golf varients in the US have always been called the jetta they have it as a jetta wagon.

Wasn't released here though, only EU and US.

Just marketing at its best Golf Wagon is sold where Golf outsells Jetta and vice versa where Jetta outsells Golf its the Jetta Wagon/SportsWagen.

I never noticed any Golf wagons in the UK or Ireland whenever I've been over there, primarily because I wasn't looking out for them at the time.

I don't see the relevance to the discussion there, team_v, I think phaeton's explanation is likely to be the most accurate.
