Was that Merc parked or abandoned?
I always park as close as possible to concrete walls or spots with a pillar either side.
Stopped parking at uni since I'm pretty sure the width of the spots is illegal. When I park in the middle I have something close to 10-15cm only on each side? How it that acceptable?
At work I usually park next to colleagues because we don't hit each others cars.
I parked next to this guy even though he did a sh*t park because he had a Mercedes and I knew he would not damage his own car. Hopefully he learnt his lesson and will park properly next time, haha. Yes, he left before me, no scratch.

How could you be so sure the Merc would not damage his own car ? I have seen owners of expensive cars who because of how much money they have don't give a s*&^t if they damage theirs or someone else's . I know with our Van that whenever I park and its a bit tight I will always put my hand around the door to ensure the other car does not get hit . Pity others are not so considerate .
Part of the problem is that these and many Japanese cars are actually very narrow compared to the boats of old in Oz, mainly due to tight parking in their respective countries, and yet our parks are getting smaller. Someone above mentioned unis, a big culprit there. I used to get visitor parks with my job which were bad enough but uni student parks are the worst. So narrow to begin with as well to maximise the income from them. Despite me parking next to poles etc, I have twice had the entire side of my other car damaged to the point of repainting. And of course the person parks besides you as close as they can. At work the guy beside me and I used to park within a centimeter of the walls so we have lots of room between us. They ladies that park there now park over the line into my spot, left lots of notes, and even showed her the potential damage she will cop when I have to wheel metal crates between the cars....still does it. Old ladies are the worst. Our previous Skoda got a nice chunk of plastic taken out of the protective strip when it as new. I parked at Bunnings miles from any other car and a Landcruiser pulled up right beside and flung the door, he caught it when he heard me yell. When we came back 10min later his car was gone and I had a wedge gone where he had obviously done it again.
Glad I am in such good company with you folk!

Actually it looks as if the SUV on the other side has parked close to the line, forcing anyone using the spot to also be offset.
It annoys me that people will park in a spot that is too small for their car. Clowns in crewcabs seem to be the worst. They can slide in and out of a partially open door, while anyone with a normal car needs to open the door wider to have enough room to get down and in.
